just an idea is anybody on facebook? we could set up a closed group to talk, I think we should set up an action group and when we reply to Santander we could cc them in, that way Santander will be aware its more than one person. I also think we should have a standard letter to send , thank you for your letter dated xxx please explain the following
    that type of thing,
hope you don't mind me suggesting its just I am vice chairman of action group, (well only two members now the rest gave up)

Its just crazy the way this has been set up it rather affected you or it hasnt if i was entitled to leave in 2008 i would of tried my hardest to get a cheeper deal sumwere else so how can they say that if your still with them you were not affected if you were never informed in the first place its a joke
  • I also don't use FB any more so can't help in that regard, but I do see the benefit of forming a group response.

I love your pic though - going to see them at Hyde Park on the 5th of July!!

    Hey

I like the watchdog idea, obviously i haven't had the form yet or the rejection letter yet, but i am happy to write to watchdog, i think things would move if we could get the cause on there.

    Tenth Anniversary Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi all,
After much searching for more paperwork which I couldnt find I posted my questionnaire on the 12th.
I recieved my letter yesterday dated the 17th saying my team are carrying out an independent review of your complaint etc etc,
once completed they will provide me with details and proposed out come lol.
"Until the investigation is complete I do not know what the outcome will be ,I hope however that we will be able to find a solution that you are happy with".
What a strange bunch, nice of them to enclose the ombudsmans leaflet in preperation for the rejection.
I will update on the next episode when my rejection letter arrives.
One thing I have decided is not to stay with them when my fixed term finishes,I was ok with them but now I dont like their way of doing things,
    Charlie.
  • Charlie3090 you've said exactly what I'm wondering - whether customers of santander would move their mortgages as soon as they're able to regardless of rates etc. being sensible and not wanting to possibly fall victim of another 'error' or another rate hike. Even those customers not affected (not the santander meaning of affected!) should be worried about what has come to light.

Many people like myself are now mortgage prisoners due to the market change. Be it that they have high LTV'S, poor credit rating or a lower income. There's no one else that will have them despite their wanting to leave.

Is this the mortgage book that a high street lender would want. It's no judgement on the customer - I'm one of these 'unfortunates' as mentioned, but it reads like a sub prime lenders mortgage book!

Hi, I have been following your thread with interest from the start.

I had a fixed rate, interest only mortgage from Aug 2007-Aug 2009 with Santander on a LTV of 90%. We tried to re-mortgage in the summer of 2009 after we fell on to the SVR because we though the interest was too high and there were better deals. Unfortunately we did not have any more equity in the house and by summer 2009 all 90% mortgages with other lenders had gone. Our circumstances had changed significantly and both me and my partner had new jobs earning a lot more than in Aug 2007. we were keen to move on to a repayment mortgage. We got stuck on Santander SVR until March 2012 when we moved house.

We were sent the letter saying we weren't affected in May (M0001). After getting the confidence after looking on here I called the number to get the form. Very very easy. I said I wanted to make a complaint about the letter, he asked if I had known would I have done anything differently, I said yes and so he said he would send me the form - 30 seconds max!!

I took my time and they sent me the letter saying I had 10 days. I returned the letter and 10 days later they responded to say they were still looking at my case, sorry for the delay and they would come back to me with a response.

So, now I waiting for my rejection. I'll let you know how I go.

Thanks for all sharing on here - it really helped me with the confidence to complain.

It's a shame companies such as santander can seemingly get away with their conduct whilst innocent customers such as yourself feel that they have no choice to accept it due to how difficult it is to get recompense.

Good on you for contacting them and requesting the questionnaire. All you have to do now is fill it in and send it back. Easy!!:D Just be honest and detail all of your thoughts. They say their decision is based on individual circumstances, so give them exactly that. It will probably take them a day just to read my thoughts on the matter!!

If there is a duty of care for them to provide compensation then it's only money that you're owed and entitled to. I'd rather have it in my bank than theirs all day long!

Keep us posted on your case.
