MSE News: Thousands of Santander mortgage holders could get payouts after blunder

Just a quick question- as Martin has been speaking in his blog yesterday with reference to claiming back tax on PPI claims, is it possible to do the same with the Santander cap rate margin payouts also? as the payouts were taxed 20% at source?
I believe you should have only paid tax on any interest Santander added to your settlement/refund amount.
You can obviously claim back the tax on the interest if you earn under the £12,500 personal allowance.
Our mortgage was in joint names (my wife and myself) so we had the standard 20% tax taken off our interest.
On my self assessment I had to then pay the extra 20% as i'm a 40% tax payer and then claim back all of my wife's as she doesn't work. Messy and confusing.0 -
We originally had our mortgage in the 90’s with Abbey National who were then took over by Santander, we originally had an endowment mortgage but later were advised to change to repayment mortgage, do we have a claim ( only recently finished our mortgage)?0
