And from my experience will tell you to leave if you are costing them money.

Indeed. I've been asked to leave bars in the states because I wasn't drinking fast enough.

I have noticed that most people who go on about how great service is in other countries, and how bad english customer service is have only ever been to the tourist traps of those countries. The service on disney's grounds is far, far different to the outskirts of orlando proper, for instance. There are rude people everywhere.

I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to send an email to the coffee shop owner in the first place. If you don't like the signs, choose somewhere else to go.

If you refer to my previous posts you'll see I was already in there using their services when I saw it, wasn't about to walk out! But as I have also said, I won't be back so yes, I have chosen somewhere else to go.

My point in the original post wasn't about the complaint so much but where I stand if they have my personal details displayed (which I will find out tomorrow).

I'm surprised they didn't send back a more sarcastic response. I'd have written a complaint letter had I got food poisoning or the coffee had been served too cold, but writing a letter of complaint over a sign that you don't like the wording on.... Is it still April 1st?! I'm surprised the owners even bothered to reply.

I'm glad you complained though, it'll give their future customers a good laugh. I'd expect them to remove any reference to your name or personal details before displaying it though so you might want to ask them to do that.

The phrase "making mountains out of molehills" springs to mind...

The point was it told you to eat/drink up and leave - I thought it was a pretty poor message to customers and wasn't encouraging custom. But each to their own, I'd never send one for coffee being cold :-)

Have asked them to remove any reference to my personal information and as I've previously said, I'm happy for it all to be displayed both my email and their response, reckon most people reading their response will be amused by that too.

Oil on troubled waters? Not a good idea imo.

I take it this was in ref to facebook, tripadvisor? Yeah, definitely don't want to start a war over it, was just annoyed at the time but not about to go reviewing them everwhere - same reason I'm not naming the place even though there's very little chance of anyone knowing it!

Oh yeah definitely, you just need to catch someone on an off day... A family member of mine is always complaining about service over here compared to France but TBH, my experience of France is that they aren't as polite as here and are much less forgiving if you can't remember your school French! As a whole I think it's pretty good over here.

Oh dear. The coffee shop have got this completely wrong, haven't they? A successful coffee shop notices when drinks have been drunk and food eaten and a staff member goes and encourages additional purchases. If nothing else is required, the bill is produced and laid gently on the table. This sends a very clear message.

They don't need the equivalent of a sledgehammer printed out and put on the tables!!!!!!
Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman
  • I wouldn't describe that response as 'going crazy'. They just want you to see their point of view.

My partner and I decided to go to the carvery. Carvery starts serving at midday. We got there just after midday.
The person at front of house met us with "Good afternoon. A table for two?" Yes please we replied. He walked us to our table. Then said "Will you be finished by 1.30? We have loads coming in"
My partner was all for leaving and going somewhere else. It takes ages in that place to queue up and get your food. And ages again to wait for drinks and dessert. But I wasn't in the mood to find somewhere else. Actually I wasn't in a great frame of mind at all that day. We'd just come straight from Heathrow, where I'd watched my daughter fly off to Australia for a year.
So, we stayed at the carvery. But as 1.30 got nearer and nearer, I was aware of the person that had seated us hovering. And he kept glancing at us as if he was willing us to eat up and go.
The whole experiance was very uncomfortable to say the least. They shouldn't accept people into the carvery if they haven't room for them.
We have now found a really lovely Toby carvery. We were made to feel really welcome. And the food us delicious. So we'll be going there in future.

I hate this kind of situation. Now if I get asked if I can leave by a certain time, I go somewhere else to enjoy the meal I paid for without having to get indigestion from trying to inhale it quickly.

In this situation though, knowing that they would be slow, I would say, "Well, depending on your service we will!"
