"we'll take your money but move on asap"...
I do see their point but they could have been more diplomatic.
I recall talking to the new owner of a small cafe and she was having great trouble with people buying a cup of tea then meeting their mates there and hanging around chatting half the morning..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I remember when McDs just put perches in some of their "restaurants" rather than seats to discourage hanging about.0

This kind of problem wouldn't happen in America. They'd roll out the red carpet for customers and fall over themselves for people willing to use their services. In this country it's "the shop shuts at 8pm, hurry up and finish shopping and get out!!!" over the PA system (well that kind of thing) and customer service staff who look at their customers as though they're an inconvenience.0

Yeah but that's not the exact wording, the op only said it basically said that so it could have said anything really!0 -

I think you'll find lots of shops/cafe's in the States also have closing times!0 -

The OP subsequently posted what the sign actually said.0 -

I have to say the reply comes across a bit obnoxious to what I think is a genuine concern of the OPs. What is even more obnoxious is posting the complaint in the coffee shop, which I think is bizarre?? If they do that with all the complaints, they'll end up like all the previous owners.
Some mornings I go and sit for an hour in Cafe Nero, nursing a large cappuccino. If they turfed me out I'd never go back!0 -
I'm surprised they didn't send back a more sarcastic response. I'd have written a complaint letter had I got food poisoning or the coffee had been served too cold, but writing a letter of complaint over a sign that you don't like the wording on.... Is it still April 1st?! I'm surprised the owners even bothered to reply.
I'm glad you complained though, it'll give their future customers a good laugh. I'd expect them to remove any reference to your name or personal details before displaying it though so you might want to ask them to do that.
The phrase "making mountains out of molehills" springs to mind...:D :rotfl::D0 -
I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to send an email to the coffee shop owner in the first place. If you don't like the signs, choose somewhere else to go.0
