Sold vehicle but buyer has not registered V5

So, I sold a motorbike to a lad late last year, and stupidly let him take the entirety of the V5, including the green slip which obviously I should have kept and sent off to tell the DVLA I had sold it. We had both filled out all the details and he said he'd send off the relevant bits.

However the other day I received a standard letter from the DVLA letting me know that my tax is about to run out and I need to retax or SORN etc. Obviously this seems to tell me that the buyer has not registered the vehicle in their name, whether for dodgy reasons or not!

My issue is that as I didn't keep the green part, I have no record of the buyer's details and address, so I can't send off a letter to the DVLA letting them know i've sold it.

What can I do?
Is there any way I can release myself from ownership/liability on the vehicle without being able to supply the buyer's details?

Thanks folks.

I think you might still be able to tell the DVLA that you are no longer the registered keeper and they will mark it down as "no keeper".

Phone or write to the DVLA and tell them you sold it but the buyer took the logbook with them when they rode off.

The issue is you didnt tell them last year, You could say you just sold it but if anything happened lately, Parking or speeding tickets then it will show that you were the owner at the time.

DVLA like sending " FINES ". For anything and everything.

Do you have any details about the new owner?

You can write to DVLA telling them you've sold the car, but it says you should include his name and address. If you haven't got those, I would write anyway and see how they respond

I thought it was the other way around and the buyer gets the green slip and the seller posts the forms. The buyer then gets new forms in the post.
