Hi Pania, Aaah I wished I lived closer as first of all I could join the Matched Betting training session and we could run together.
I have discovered that I quite like it and it is reasonably good for keeping the bottom in good order. I did the Manchester Run this year and have got in for the North Run as well. Very cheap apart from the trainers and therefore fits in with my new DFW lifestyle. Maybe we could run and meet halfway  or just be virtual running partners
My meal was lovely in the end but I was so knackered from cooking that flamin' meringue I ended up falling asleep early in front of the TV :rotfl:
I'll PM you tomorrow re matched betting. Glad you're study is sorted too and the laptop escaped relatively unscathed from the paint and water0 -
All joking apart, a virtual running club could be just what we all need.
I have done a virtual walking club - everyone had training schedules for the moonwalk. It didn't matter that some were on beginners schedules and other were on power walk schedules, everyone went online and told how they had got on, made excuses why they didn't go as far as they should etc and it worked quite well.
I want to do a marathon again - one of those things I did with my Dad and keep saying I will do London again for him, but need the motivation to get out of the door with my trainers on. Application forms will be out soon but I don't want to apply with my current level of fitness (running for a bus would just about do me in!) so need to get a few miles in before I even consider running 26 miles again!
I see a challenge ahead.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Me too - I would seriously join in. My best friend is my running partner but she's away so I've been dragging DH out as I truly need inspiration to keep going. My plan for the North Run involves running 5 times a week so if you fancy being a virtual partner - I would also love to do the Marathon but bf too scared to enter - maybe we could do it with DFW car stickers on our heads :rotfl:
How long did the marathon take you before?0 -
Well, now there's a story.
First time I did the marathon I was 20. Dad was a marathon runner and every year I watched it on TV and laughed at those at the back who were barely walking, yet alone running and ridiculed them a bit (very mature I was in those days) so my Dad challenged me. Took me out for a mile, I walked more than I ran and looked a bit like  when I finished! He said I had no right to make fun of those going round 26 miles dressed as fairies when I couldn't run round the block.
The challenge was on. 12 months later I got round in 5hrs 16 mins.
I got hooked a bit on running and 2 years later was super fit, expected to do the marathon in under 4 hours which I would have been delighted with. 4 days before marathon day I broke my foot, but stubborn so and so that I am I did it with a broken foot in 5 hrs 18 mins!
Every year since (all 16 of them) I have vowed to run it again. I really want to do it again before I am 40, still have 3 years to do it in so must get my act together. Want to be under 5 hours this time though!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. You poor thing breaking your foot, bet you were absolutely gutted after all that hard work. I am constantly paranoid that I will hurt myself and not be able to run, would hate it. I swear that running makes me feel better about everything, I never return home from a run sad no matter how p****d off when I set off.
Well Hypno, if you are up for the "virtual" challenge so am I!:beer:0 -
So the challenge is on. Pania will join in too - she doesn't really have any choice as it is on her thread that we are arranging things. She is co-opted into the running challenge by failing to appear to say otherwise
So, my first challenge is to get my trainers on tomorrow and go around the block. Won't be able to run all of it but at least it will be a start. May print off one of the runners world schedules for beginners - walk one min jog one min type things just to get me started!
Regarding the broken foot, it meant I had an excuse not to have done very well. Always useful!!
Off to bed now - haven't been sleeping well recently so took a couple of pills to help me on the way earlier, they are kicking in nicely now so off to the land of nod for a good night's sleep hopefully.
"see" you in the morning!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi again folks - ooh, can I join you all in the virtual running please? It will be walking in my case, I'm not very fit these days, I was superfit till my mid 20s, but no longer. Every year I watch the London marathon and swear I'll be fitter next year, but I never am. So I have to do something soon, before I lose all the hormone protection and drop dead of a heart attack. I live in a leafy suburb thats a pleasure to be in, even tho its really hilly, so I've got no excuse really. I'll "see" you all round the block!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

OOOOOOHHHHH I have a massive thread hijack!! Yay!!!:j
Soz guys been buried up to my neck in the study, had a very sucessful day though.
So what sbeen going on since i've been away? A virtual running club... WOOHOOO:j :j :j what a fantastic idea.
I started running a couple of years back, entering 10k's and the like, until a massive push for the london marathon 2006. (finished in 5hrs 20) Missed out on entry this year so motivation just flopped and i've put on sooooo much weight!! cannot wait for the entry for next year to come out. Pania hypno and blackangel do london marathon DFW style!!
a virtual running club is a fantastic way to keep everyone motivated. :T
BA is a shame you're not closer but welcome to join in the shenanigans here anytime you like. Good to hear you had a great evening
And hypno love your theory that i can't argue as wasn't posting! does that mean i need to find some motivation from somewhere and get on with it!:rotfl: Only disadvantage we have unlike karma is that it is flat flat flat here so no hill training!
Right so on with it girlies. daily report on distance, time and reason you didn't make it if you didn't want to go. Something to focus my mind anyhoo.
Right off to bed, need sleep. Night night and sweetdreams. Look forward to your PM tomorrow BA.debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Hi Pania, how's it going? I'm having a little posting marathon instead of doing my finance practice (which is also open, but I'm not "sitting with it", in the phrase I use). Instead of virtual running round the block, I've been doing actual tramping up and down the steps in my garden, with a loaded watering can. I *think* it counts.....
How's the mb study going? Are you going to do football or something else? Have you actually opened accounts yet? *Give* with the details! Fascinating....2023: the year I get to buy a car0
