Me and Mr S spent the evening looking like we were doing a bad impression of Torvill & Dean
:rotfl:
I can just picture you now!!!!
Talking of laminated flooring, would you recommend it over carpeting, in terms of work required to keep it clean, or do you regret having it done?
I've been thinking of having all the downstairs laminated when I move (obviously depending on what flooring is already there, which I won't know till I actually see the place) but when I mentioned it to my ex at the weekend he advised me not to bother. He said especially with animals (cats) the hair/fur flys about and gets trapped under sofas and behind tv's, units etc and is a pain to clean (I said maybe he should tell his g/f to clean more often then :rotfl: ) but joking aside is it really a pain to keep clean?
I'm thinking more on the lines of surely it's easier to mop up spills etc than risk staining a carpet and having to have that shampooed every year or so"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I'd recommend it any day C_Q
I'm still not able to hoover, unless I sit on the floor and do it .... but they don't call me Cheryl and I'm not on Wife Swap
It's easier to keep clean, especially with pets imo, and takes a fraction of the time it does with carpets.
We bought a long handled contraption, bit like a squegee (how's that spelt? lol) mop ... and takes minutes to do (and less backache!)
I've only got one room that hasn't been laminated, but the hall and stairs are carpetted. (I don't do Jane Torvill down the stairs)
The downside of it is it can look, and feel cold. We chose a warm colour for the through lounge, so it still looks warm and it was helped with warm looking throws on the sofas and chairs etc. Slippers help too
Tbh - when it comes to spills, they obviously show up immediately, but it just means they get wiped up quicker.

Re scratches....
I watched some programme with Alistair Appleton in it (forget which now), but he mentioned scratching on laminates. He suggested an ordinary wax crayon, but he also mentioned putting it in the microwave. Trouble was, he forgot to say how long for
Maybe someone else saw the programme?
(Thanks for the link btw se999)
Just Googled and found this if it helps ...
Remove the paper off of the crayon, shave down and place in microwavable dish. Melt the pieces of wax crayon down until they can be molded into a putty like substance. WARNING: be careful the wax can get quite hot.
It's also best to remove as much wax as possible. Too much and it's a bit of a hazard.0 -
Well this is one of the reasons I was considering it because I find hoovering carpets very tiring and can only do a small amount before I start to feel the pain. I hoover the lino in the kitchen and bathroom and thats easy, so I guess doing laminate floors would be the same
I'd have to choose the colour very carefully though as all my furniture is very pale - creams, limed oak/beech etc - but as you say, you can add warmth and depth with throws, cushions and rugs etc, maybe in some nice autumnal colours (I love reds)
Anyway, I must stop day-dreaming again as I can't make any definite plans until I get a house and see what the existing flooring is like. This is one of those jobs I'd want to get done before I actually move in though if possible - less hassle all round!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

In our last house we had a cheaper laminate floor and when we were selling I used kids felt pens to cover scratches
in this house the whole downstairs bar the kitchen has laminate floors, we used Pergo flooring which is more expensive but very hard wearing, I have an office chair in the study and spend many hrs on it but the floor hasn't got one mark,
as for it showing the dust and fluff, that dust would be on your floors anyway wether it carpet or laminate and I'm happier brushing/hoovering every day instead of leaving itI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I don't hoover mine  but Mr S doesNot too often though ...
And as for colours, if you do need it in your next house, why not ask for samples?
We got so many I'm sure they'd have fitted the downstairs loo out0 -
Hmmmm some mixed reactions here on whether it's good or not!
Good tip about the computer chair though (which is where I spend a lot of time sitting  ) so I would definitely go for one of those plastic mats! I think I would get one even if I had carpet though as I've noticed here that the carpet has a slight groove in it where I wheel back and forth LOL!
I'm going to have to think about this some more ..."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

That's a great idea, thanks! I didn't know they did that!
I had a leaflet dropped through the door with the weekly paper last week from a company called Floors 2 Go, and they're offering a 20% discount if you buy from their new range (no end date on it so no idea how long the promotion will last) so maybe I should give them a call
Edit: just discovered they have a website (added link) and you can order online too!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I love the m(wotsit) oak!
But I'd need six packs at £26 each to do my front room.
