I had an email from Tesco a few weeks ago, someone had posted a link on here it was on a thread with Merlin Group in the title, if you search for that on the forum hopefully you will get it to come up, it ends very shortly though, think it might be the 31st August.

Also never take kids (under the age 12 IMO) to Thorpe Park as it's for teenagers and adults. Chessington caters for the youngens and it's only 10 mins down the road from Thorpe Park.

Didn't want to read that ... we're taking our two (5 and 7) to Thorpe Park on Tuesday. Is it really that bad for under-10's ?

Also, we're going via the Sun Offer. Does Thorpe Park do the "buy a Merlin Pass once you're inside" thing or can you not do it with these sort of BOGOF tickets ?

Anyone got any idea what the queues would be like on Sunday 4th Sept at Legoland and Monday 5th at Chessington, we were planning on going as its the day before the schools go back but mine don't go back until the Tuesday so thought we would give it ago? We were going to use Tesco vouchers, they have a cheaper deal on at the mo where its only £10 of vouchers needed, however you can't use it on the 4th and 5th and now I am worried that there is something going on that we don't know about and it is going to be really really busy, I can't see anything on either website?

    Thanks

I took my kids the day before school went back and it was busy. Plus the Tesco vouchers means you have to wait in line to get your vouchers exchanged. Still worth it though. We found that things get quiet later on in the day as people want to get home for the 'early to bed, you've got school tomorrow' thing. If you can stomach a massive day, stay on and you'll be able to whip round loads!
  • Went on Sun & mon and everyone had a great time, so thanks so much to everyone on this site. Think we got to go on pretty much all the rides, we had a blast, came back shattered.

Things to do differently next time:

    - be less stingy and actually buy the £6 refill bottle for the family!
    - use the lockers at the front entrance to put in any extra supplies to save carrying around the extra food & drinks I took to save money!!
    - definately use the single rider queues for the big rides (5 mins to get on nemesis and 10 for oblivion) If you are nice to the staff and have a cute kid with you, they will try to get you both on together - well it worked for us!
    - stop being so lazy and actually get there for the opening times, instead of 11.30 - then try to leave by 5-5.30 so the car park is quieter

Now looking at ways to get cheap Merlin passes so we can do everything else!!!
  • Please can someone offer me some advice on Chessington!!!

My daughter has an inset day at school on the last Friday in September. I am thinking of taking her to Chessington.

My main concern is what will the queues be like? As far as I can see, there are hardly any schools closed that day so hoping that will mean the numbers there will be much smaller than weekends/school holidays.

I see they offer "fast track" tickets - does this mean that those without spend longer in a near-static queue as those with such tickets will get priority on the rides?

I last went to a theme park about 15 years ago before we had kids and forgot to check half term dates - consequently the place was mobbed and I think we went on about 6 rides all day, spending the rest of the time queueing - something I am very keen to minimise.
