Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good Luck Everyone

  • Right so I've been thinking about my budget.

    Sun - NSD
    Mon - £3 hospital parking, £40 petrol.
Tues - £20 out with a friend for lunch and shopping. Hoping just to window shop. £25 top up shop if needed.
    Weds - £15 lunch
    Thurs - NSD
    Fri - NSD
    Sat - £5

    Total - £110

I'm hoping I've over estimated each amount, apart from the petrol, otherwise it will mean I have to have a tighter week the following week.

Thank you. This is the first time in years that I haven't had any kind of loan, credit card, store account etc.

I do need to change my frame of mind, in that I now have money in savings and if I need/want something I need to use this rather than use the 'free' money of a credit card/store card, as it will still need paying back, isn't free and once I have an amount on a CC it tends to build up and I could quite easily end up in debt again. :(

The last credit card I got was to take on holiday just in case.... and 7 years on and 7 years of spending on it. It has gone. :D I also got a loan through my dad to pay off god knows what from 3 years ago, and have just finished paying that too. :D

Really need to focus now I'm on maternity leave.

  • Thanks for the new thread ETO, I'm pledging £45 this week. Don't know what this week is going to turn out like plans wise yet, but that should cover it as I have nothing special on.

  • Can I pledge £60.00 again this week.

Thanks as always for the thread :)

Managed £16/£20 last week. This week will have a lot of NSD's from Tuesday, but need to do shopping today to include a 9-nsd-in-a-row challenge eeeeeek.

So, £30 for me please, most of which should be spent today on food for the next couple of weeks :o
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.
  • Hi everyone!

Shiny new thread! Thanks ETO and congratulations on becoming debt free! Can't wait for the day I can say that too!

Worked the night shift on Friday so was so knackered yesterday and slept a lot so didn't manage to get on here!

Here are my spends for last week:

    Sun ~ NSD
    Mon ~ NSD
    Tue ~ NSD
    Wed ~ £1.99
    Thu ~ NSD
Fri ~ £5.50 to top up oystercard to get to work and back :D
Sat ~ NSD (slept most of the day lol)

    So that's a spend of £ 7.49 this week!

This week I'd like to pledge £ 10.00 again. Unfortunately my weekend away has had to be postponed until May due to work commitments, disappointing but as I'm self employed it's great to have the work!

Have a great low/no spend week everyone! and a great Sunday.

    Cheers
    Casper
