This isn't guaranteed to work, but did for me the other day.

My talktalk deal is coming up for renewal at the end of the month so I phoned up and asked for my mac code as plusnet has 70.70 cashback on new customers so

when the 10.49 x 12 (has to be paid for upfront) = 125.88

plus the 4.99 x 12 months = 59.88

totalled 185.76

take off the 70.70 it means for the year it would cost 115.06


Talktalk went off to check and then offered me the unlimited internet and evening and weekend calls for 1.25 per month as long as I paid the line rental upfront (which i've saved up for so its not a problem) which equalled 129 for the year. I said well its still 14 more expensive. So i said well for 14 surely its not worth loosing me as a customer so she said she could offer 10 on the account as a gesture of goodwill. It works out just under 4 quid more expensive but will save all the agro of waiting for cashback and stuff and keeps my internet

Will try this tomorrow. At the moment i'm paying £5.75 + £9.50 line rental= £15.25pm (RRP- £18.60 + £14pm line rental= £32.60) for their plus package which includes

-Unl Broadband
-Unl Landline calls
-up to 24mbps broadband (get around 8mbps)
-Africa/Asia call pack thrown in
-Free router thrown in

Paid line rental upfront so paid £180 over 12 months which isn't bad.

After doing some research what they've done is given you the half price (£6.50) £3.25pm deal on their website and added in a £2 recurring discount which is what they did for me on the half price (£15.50) £7.75 deal. I'm hoping they can add another £2 discount and take it down to £3.75pm.

Will ask for the credit as well and see if they can do fibre half price or something. Also they're offering new customers a £50 bill credit so going to ask if they can do that for me too.

I'll post here with my findings.

Just got off the phone and i'm laughing. Got pretty much exactly whati wanted but got fibre optic as well. I tried to push it a bit more but the guy wasn't having it.

-Up to 38mb
-free router & installation worth £40

£5.00pm (RRP: £10pm)

-£60 bill credit applied (To cover the cost of fibre optic)
-Value line rental @ £114 = £9.50pm

£9.50pm + £9.50pm line rental= £19.00pm inc VAT
-£60 bill credit to cover cost of fibre = £14.00pm inc line rental!!!!!!!! (Over 12 months)

That's £168 over 12 months for unlimited fibre optic broadband

So I'll be paying £4.50 every month (-£60 bill credit) for fibre optic and pay £114 upfront to cover line rental!

I renewed my talktalk account and the guy who i spoke to gave me the following deal:-

Line rental upfront - £9.00 a month
broadband/phone - £3.25 a month -less £2.00 a month discount plus £1.50 a month credit that i used to get when it was £6.50 a month!

Phone/broaband cost per month -£0 as long as you only use the phone after 7.00 pm plus weekends.

Whats the chance of getting this renewed next time? slim to none!

erm.. check that the £60 credit isn't to cover the equivalent of the £5 discount for the fibre (which is what its ound like you were doing).
I didn't get any good deals on fibre 6 months ago - was going to go for it before working out that TT were going to charge me more than £10 a month more than what I was already paying on essentials. It was a pain to figure out as it was a 18mth contract they were going to put me on with charges changing every 6 months!

I too have just now got onto a contract for 12m for £1.25pm, with 9.50 line rental. £10.75 is not bad for essentials. I'd like fibre, but it's not essential for me.

I've been asked this on other forums as well and trust me, i know exactly what i've got. It's £5pm for 18 months (as it's an 18 month contract for fibre) and then i have an additional £60 bill credit which makes fibre free for 12 months. (theoretically)

Now the good thing about talk talk is that you can renegotiate your contract pretty much anytime (as long as you sign up for a minimum term) so i hope to get a similar deal in 12 months time to cover the next 12 months.

Trust me, i know exactly what i'm doing to get these deals and i know exactly how to handle the talk talk retentions dept. I was originally offered the essential package for £1.25 as well but as soon as i mentioned fibre he told me it had to be standard price of £6.50 but i kept pushing and pushing and in the end he did half the price of fibre, throw in a £60 bill credt, and put on a £2 discount for the essential package so it was down to £4.50.

So yes, it looks too good to be true with the free installation as well. But it is true. Even the guy on the phone was saying that he'd gone at least £100 over the credit limit he was supposed to give customers as loyalty.

All talk talk have ever given me is a £2 discount off my bill if I renewed for 18 months. Which is appreciated but for the first time in a long time I have terrible internet service. My wifi keeps dropping to the point where its non existent and after doing a few checks, didnt offer to send a new router their best offer was to send an engineer out and charge me £50. Which right now I cant afford.

I went to talk talk because I thought it was one of the cheapest and like any other company of course they want to get new customers in, but Im currently paying £25 a month for wifi that doesnt work and if I want it fixed, a £50 call out charge.

I think I'll be leaving them when my contract comes up for renewal.

They no doubt have many contented customers Pauline, but you're unfortunately finding out why they are so cheap!

Changing the wireless channel is the very first thing to try if the problem does not occur when you are connected by ethernet.
TT are responsible for the signal to your router. From the router to your wireless device is down to you. You do not need to pay £50 for a TT 'engineer' to do this-it takes 5 minutes of your time.
Nothing you have said indicates a router problem.

It's just like the argument with Three mobile having terrible signal. For most of the people it's fine. Same with Talk Talk, their service is good enough for me, CS may not be the best but i'd rather get a good reliable service at a cheap price. Same with three mobile, I'm paying 50% less than new customers + Three are the best in my area and include unlimited data and so i have no quibble with them. Talk Talk also don't have a fair use policy on data so i'm fine with them.

For me talk talk and Three work out great as they are cheap and give me exactly what i want. Plus i know how to handle their CS dept via facebook/member forum etc... so any issues i do have get solved straight away.

Basically, for me talk talk are great. But i can see why others may have problems.
