ps_live,
you misunderstand me, in no way am I suggesting that you actually go with supanet! Get on to NTL and tell them that supanet are doing for £17.99 what NTL charge you £24.99 for. They are doing free set up and first month free also. Put some pressure on NTL to charge you the same......and then the window licker said to me...0 -

Hehe ... thanks for the tipI'm just a little concerned that I'll threaten to go to Supanet and NTL will say ... "ok, but you'll need a BT line to do it, and that'll cost you £10.50/month. Bear in mind we have just waived that £10.50/month for the next year".
Hmmmm ....
cheers

I am on ntl 1mb broadband and I rang their retentions number to say that I was thinking of switching, and the immediately offered me 2mb for £17.50 per month which I accepted. If you don't ask you don't get!0 -

Give NTL a ring on their disconnections (customer retention) number 0800 052 0243 and tell them, hesitantly, that you are thinking of leaving as you can get better value elsewhere (have examples ready eg BT with Talk Talk or One Tel as they will ask). You may be able to get them to give you your line rental for free (like me). Make sure you are on their 3-2-1 tariff and use 1899. How long have you had your broadband with them? If you are over 12 months then they will also cut your monthly charge for that in order to keep you.
WOW.. we have TV. broadband and telephone with NTL.. Have done for years..
I rang and without too much persuasion they offered a £27 pcm drop for 12 months. THATS £324 OVER THE NEXT YEAR. We have talk unlimited 24 which know can be beaten but suits us for work purposes - recliam rental etc. Thanksalot.
Happy now.HLK

HLK,
glad it worked out for you, happy to help
hansi,
I stayed on NTL 1mb broadband, declined their 2mb, and am charged only £10.50/month. Not being a big downloader it suits to pay less per month!
ps_live,
as they say- if you don't ask then you don't get. What have you got to lose? Take them to the edge, if they steadfastly refuse to budge then back off and live to fight another day......and then the window licker said to me...0 -

cheers

what do you think to my situation? (not reallya situation but you know... if there's money to be knocked off!)
i've been with NTL for a year, just got a new price guide fromthem today. Line rental for phone is going up from £9.50 to £10.50. I'm on the 3 2 1 standard charge.... and they've said tehy'll throw in free local weekend calls from June 1st.
I also have 300k internet for £17.99 per month.
Granted i'm actually on 1MB cos i did that upgrade thing. My tv is standard 5 Ch job, it's all i want/need without shelling out money for useless stuff i'd never watch anyway.
I rang them earlier & spoke to customer services (before readign this thread) & complained about the line charge going up for an extra service (free wekend calls) i dont want & won't use. I use the 118866 (or whatever it's called) & other free providers like that, my last bill (today) was for £6, that covers the last 4 months.... we really dont call many people at all, so you know, i consider our line rental a big waste, but we really need it because mobiles are so expensive.
so what would anyone suggest please? I love the idea of knocking off some money!0 -

Do exactly what I did, ring the retentions line (0800 0520243) and in your best shaky voice say:
"I'm happy enough with NTL, but I have friends and colleagues with BT, and using Talk Talk or Onetel are getting a much better deal. Is there anything you can do to help me out? I'm thinking of going to BT for six months or so to see if I can cut my bills."
Ensure you stay on the 3-2-1 plan, don't let them put you on any other plan, your calls don't warrant it anyway. Ask them if you they can do anything with the line rental costs.
I did this and got 12 months line rental FREE, didn't even really have to push too hard.

thanks for that advice.
have since remembered i'm in a contract with them - until Aug 28th. I phoned them up anyway cos you never know! i saw this on their website, i thought it was a brilliant offer (what you got basically) http://www.home.ntl.com/page/bundle3 but it's for new customers.
After being past from changing packages dept - to sales - to customer services i finally find out that customer services cant help, it's sales.... but by the time i found that out, it was 8pm & i'm told to ring back in the morning. stupid idiots. Still, he said i might be able to sort something out with them hopefully (not going to mention cancelling yet - that'll be august if i have to).
Do i remember something in the contract that says you can upgrade your service & you wont be breaking your contract? If so, then i'd like this deal! I said to cust servs guy, in theory, in August, i could cancel & then sign up as a new customer with this deal (if still available)? He said, yes in theory, So i said, well, how about we sort it out without going through all that? He said from that to speak to sales.... so that's what i'll do tomorrow!
sorry if i spoke in riddles!0 -
ok, have just rang them again & spoke to someone in sales (again)
what i'd have to do is give ntl the 30 days cancellation period notice for my account - i'd do this 30 days before my contract ends. Then once cancelled, i'd apply for a new account with them with the new offer (if still available). apparently he said there is no way they'd be able to just change my account to this offer & so avoiding the hassles.
Doing it this way would incur a 2/3 day period where i'd be without internet & phone... something i wuold go through for this offer.... but then, why dont I just ring that retentions number 30 days before to try & cancel & try to bargain with them & get that discount without all the hassles??? to be continued in Late july.......>>>>>0
