18866 do NTL too... and its only 2p connection, compared to 1899's 3p.
Phew! saving money is hard-work
Just have persuade my wife that dialling a speed-dial before every call is the way forward.
cheers
Pete
18866 rates vary for cable lines compared to BT lines.
BT users with 18866 UK calls are 2p per call.
Cable users with 18866 UK calls are 2p + 0.5p/min.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Give NTL a ring on their disconnections (customer retention) number 0800 052 0243 and tell them, hesitantly, that you are thinking of leaving as you can get better value elsewhere (have examples ready eg BT with Talk Talk or One Tel as they will ask). You may be able to get them to give you your line rental for free (like me). Make sure you are on their 3-2-1 tariff and use 1899. How long have you had your broadband with them? If you are over 12 months then they will also cut your monthly charge for that in order to keep you.
Thanks knuckledragger/Edinburghlass, I'll do that tomorrow
In the meantime, Bextech has shown me the light, 1899 it is
I hope in the future, I'll be able to give good advice liek you lot, many many thanks.

Well, I would If I could get through on this line (0800 0520243). I have tried five times this morning, each getting the engaged tone.
I rang the main number (0800 0522000) and spoke to a lovely lady. Explaining I was leaving as there were better deals elsewhere, I was steered to NTL's "24 talk unlimited" plan. On sensing my reluctance to go for an NTL plan, the best she could offer me was 3 months half-price line rental. I said this wasn't enough and requested to be disconnected.
She THEN told me I'd need to speak to the "retentions department" on 0800 0520243 and they MAY be able to offer a better deal. I thanked her and hung up.
So, I'm through the first line of defence, I just need to speak to "retentions" now. I'll keep you all posted how I get on (if I can get through)

ps_live,
This is only the start. Put the squeeze on again. Look at https://www.supanet.com They are doing 2mb broadband for £17.99. Get back onto the retentions department, you know the number, get that shaky voice back on, tell them that you can get the same for less, etc. You just know that it's going to shave £7/month or possibly more off your bill...
...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
But are they reliable? I have ntl 1mb for £17.99 but I know it's going to work. Is anyone else using supanet, and how easy is it to set up? ntl doesn't use a phone line, so can you do the installs yourself or does it require an engineer visit?0

You could try MSE Martin's thread on cheapest Broadband.
For reliability of a certain company you could try ISP Review and see if any users have left comments, etc about the company.0 -

Ahh, but Supanet is ADSL, and for that I'd need a BT line. Also, the bandwidth allowance is only 3GB/month. I'd use that in a weekend. The £29.99 2mb package only has 20GB/month limit.
At least with NTL, I get a 30GB/month limit on a 2mb line for £24.99. I hammer it too. I download the occasional movie, sometimes music and between me and my wife, we browse a lot. My kids "love" online flash gamesIt all eats bandwidth.
