So it's decided - my baby's birthday will be 24th July by section. It wasn't a huge surprise but it didn't stop me having a breakdown when I went to bed and poor exhausted OH having to cuddle me for an hour while I blew bubbles out my nose and whimpered about how scared I am. I know that's ridiculous but it's a horrid combination of disappointment, fear, lack of control over my destiny and worry that there's a 'bad' reason for baby's determination to be breech. And 2 and a half weeks seems like such a long time to be worrying about all this stuff!
Hey Eels. Don't worry too much, I had an emergency C-section after a rather long labour and it wasn't half as bad as I imagined. Actually, I can see why celebs have them as it's so easy. You have a small needle in your spine for a spinal block which means you can't feel anything from your ribs down, they wheel you in and 10 mins later (or maybe less!) babe is born! If you're lucky they'll have music on in theatre. Imogen was born on Boxing Day to the strains of When A Child Is Born - truly the most surreal part of the whole experience!
The down side is that it then takes them about 45 minutes to stitch you back up again so Dad and babe get some 1-to-1 time in the recovery room before you arrive. Don't worry though, you'll be kind of spacey so it won't seem so long and they won't take him/her away without giving you a snuggle (you might not be able to cuddle - I lost control of my arms as was shaking so much. Apparently this is a standard response to a spinal block as the body thinks you're cold so makes you shiver. Weird!)
Hubby really treasures that time with Imogen. He told her all about the family, the rules about boys and promised she could have a puppy when she's at school!
Afterwards you just need to take your medication to keep the pain at bay. It isn't too long before it settles down, but you will need hubby to pick babe up for you for the first few days. I struggled to get her from her moses basket for the night feeds but could do most other things.
Hope I've managed to allay some of your worries and not made things worse!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Ok girlies need some advice
I know we are not allowed to give out medical advice but any personal views/experiences would be much appreciated.
I work in a respite unit with children and adults with learning disabilities. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and there is someone coming into the unit tomorrow who has ringworm!! What are/if any the risks to me and unborn baby? I have done a google search and DH is looking to but really only gives advice on ringworm not specifically in pregnancy. Tried NHS24 and a fat lot of good they were (sorry if anyone works there)!!! Also tried midwife (maternity hospital)but couldn't really give much advice, she said all docs in surgery!! so am despearate to get advice before work tomorrow. Its also the monday holiday so doctor surgery closed tomorrow!!
Aaaahhh really need some help as I don't want to be at any risk.
My main concern is that if I were to catch it I would be untreatable (due to being preggers)!!
Sorry if I've blabberded but just panicing!!
Thanx in advance

OK, ringworm is contagious but mainly by close contact. I would suggest you avoid contact with the person concerned and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly if you do have contact, but it's unlikely that you'd catch it. Is your pregnancy public knowledge or will you have to be discreet? If your workplace know then they'll be sympathetic.
If you did catch it I'm fairly sure it could still be treated. When I've had ringworm before the treatment has been topical (gel) and so systemic absorption of the drugs is tiny. Try not to worry!
And to Lu T - thank you!0 -
First of all this is the sweetest thing I've heard all day!Hubby really treasures that time with Imogen. He told her all about the family, the rules about boys and promised she could have a puppy when she's at school!
Secondly, scruffy, I have no idea, but it sounds like you have tried all the avenues open to you at the moment. A quick google shows that women do get it in pregnancy and a doctor should be able to treat it safely.:wall:0 -

Scruffy I've had ringworm whilst being pregnant - it's nothing to worry about. It's a fungus that lives on the skin and is treated by a topical cream. The GP wasn't in the least concerned that I was pregnant.0 -
Definitely no signs of Jen !
Jen: You better be labouring, or recovering there from, you have a lot of anxious MSE 'aunties' holding their breath !:D0 -

With my first pregnancy we told everyone as soon as I found out as we were that excited - but we then had a miscarriage at 10 weeks. With this preg DH and I agreed to wait until after our first scan which was at 9w+5 and confirmed the baby's heartbeat. It was really tough keeping it from my Mum though, especially as I had the worst MS ever!
