Totally off topic but I am due 30/12/07 and last week finally got my backside into gear and ordered my TENS machine.

If anyone wants to hire/buy I found them a little cheaper on a website called www.naturalbumps.co.uk.

They seem like a really nice family run company and I took delivery less than 24 hours after ordering (using the special delivery option for £5) which meant one less thing to worry about.

FE - really sorry, just read your post. Thinking of you...

    hi

i was under the impression that eye tests were free when you were pregnant (using the exemption certificate card) but i went into specsavers today, and apparantly they aren't.
since i've been pregnant i've noticed my eyes are really funny (i've never ever had an eyetest and i'm 24! :( ) and thought i could get one for free, along with glasses if i needed them, but no!
i get tax credits, but only the minimum, so don't get an exemption that way.

    is this correct??

Yes, unfortunately the maternity exemption only covers prescriptions and your toothy pegs.:D

Unfortunately the card only entitles you to free prescriptions and dental care, not eye tests / glasses.

What sort of work do you do? If it is anything to do with computers I think you should be able to get a free eye test through your employer. Otherwise, I'm afraid, you will have to pay for it.

    The NHS site says:

You are entitled to a free NHS sight test if you:
    • are under 16, or under 19 and in full time education,
    • are aged 60 and over,
    • are registered blind or partially sighted,
    • have diabetes or glaucoma,
    • are aged 40 or over with a first degree relative with glaucoma, or have been diagnosed at risk of glaucoma,
    • have been prescribed a complex lens, or
    • are receiving certain benefits or credits

FE so sorry to hear your news.

I had a really bad night last night. We had gone down to London to catch up with some of our old colleagues (we moved from London in August). We all had dinner at one of the girls houses and didn't eat until about 8.30 and sat on sofa's etc. Having got home at midnight I got acid reflux as soon as I lay down, slept for an hour then thought I was going to puke, got up glugged gaviscon and slept for 2 more hours before puking big style : ( Had left quite a mess in the bathroom when day light appeared this morning!!

Have only managed 3 bits of toast today and a satsuma. all causing reflux. Throat has been burning all day.

    Moan over.

Question - When I had the anti-D injection at the midwife last week she said I should go to the hospital if I fall or if my belly gets hit in case internal bleeding is caused and need a top up injection. What constitutes my belly being hit? My friends 3 year old is intrigued by the baby in my belly and has taken to 'patting' it with some gusto.

She also said I have really low blood pressure which is why I feel faint if I stand still for more than 10 minutes and that my fundus is right up under my ribs which is why my asthma is getting bad and I sometimes feel like the baby is trying to push my rib cage apart!!
    Baby Boy due 4/3/08

We've completed on flat purchase :D
Moving in Saturday 12th Jan 08
  • Oh FE I am so so sorry. My thoughts are with you and I truly hope in a few months you will be back on here with much better news.

I have wrapped up my hubby's gifts to his family today which he normally does but I am SOO BORED on maternity. I sat cross legged on the floor and it was a challenge but fun. My right foot kept going pins and needles but nothing a good smack didn't sort!

Midwife coming to see me tomorrow - dunno why this one is at home think we are going through birth plan etc. Also just made arrangements to go sales shopping on boxing day to Meadowhall shopping centre. I must be mental!! I want to leave it till last minute to get measured for breastfeeding bra (because my cupsize hasn't changed just my back while being preggers so far) and I am sure i will be mahoosive after baby is born (I am F cup normally!!). This town doens't have anywhere that sells maternity stuff it's very annoying to have to trot to Sheffield all the time. Grrrr.

Hope everyone sleeps well tonight and the antiheartburn fairies are in attendance.

well still no luck on the homebirth yet but fingers crossed, anyway have told OH that i will have the baby at home regardless pmsl:P:P

any way im usually doom and gloom on here so thought i would give you all a laugh! was at a real nativity last night with the family, in-laws in a real stable etc etc. DD was amazed by the animals and kept calling one of the angels santa as she had a furry hat on. the nativity was fab and we all had a great time although desperate to get home to a nice warm bed!!!

DS had a star helium inflated balloon from a birthday party and when i climbed into bed the balloon followed me into the room and landed beside me, i thought this was hilarious and shouted on OH. he put the balloon outside the bedroom but it insisted on coming back in the room again and landing right beside me?????? there were no windows open and no explanation for this so do you think its a sign for a baby to arrive on christmas day???? i have been winding everyone up today saying that i am going to call him jesus:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

anyway hope all are well and i hope all these overdue babies hurry up and give their mums a break and love and hugs to all of those in need xxxxx

  • Oh my thoughts are with you FE :grouphug:

Shelvis - AHHH...Suddenly my name is very near the top of the list!

I've been to see MW today,My iron levels are 10.7 so i've got to collect some iron tablets tomorrow. They don't like your iron levels to drop below 10.5 as she was saying that you can have problems with bleeding whilst in labour. She also said that they make ypur poo black & make you constipated...
something else to look forward to then!:rotfl:

Anyway MW tried to book my next appointment for 3rd Jan,I was quick to point out that this is 5 days after my DD,so i've now got a home visit booked for my DD which will be followed up with a sweep 7 days later if nothing has happened, which if still nothing will be followed up 5 days after with induction!

Fingers crossed I don't have to go the full 12 days over!
Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!

Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:

    !!

The reason they want you to go to hospital is that if you cause yourself an injury and your baby's blood mixes with yours, then yours will fight the baby's blood because it recognises it as being 'foreign'. That is why you get anti D injections. The most likely time to have this cross over is at delivery which is why you get one again after you have had your baby. So in answer to your Q, it is really a case of if you think this child is hitting you hard enough to cause a bleeding injury, then you need to pop yourself off to hospital !. HTHs
