  • Hi... Ive been for my 20 week scan today (although Im 21 wks tomorrow) and Its a girl:pI was just so relieved everything was in the right place and she looked fine. The only thing that worried me was the placenta is on the front wall and I.m sure I read somewhere that this can cause a long labour???? The sonographer said this was nothing to worry about but you know what its like with pregnancy hormones:eek:

congrats to the newly birthed and newly conceived :)
Am so pleased today that they've finally decided i'm entitled to the maternity leave policy that was in place at the time i notified work of my pregnancy, rather than the one they're replacing it with which gives the statutory minimum pay. Phew! Worth an extra £300 or so a month to me when i go back to work so not a drop in the ocean :)
  • Hi everyone, I have just read all the recent birth stories, they are totally amazing and just go to show how different each experience can be.

I am 24 weeks now and am begining to feel like I have been pregnant forever, I was pregnanct at the begining of the year but miscarried so I have been pregnant for most of this year  I am feeling rather big now and am tiring easily. At 24 weeks was anyone part of any antenatal groups? I am begining to feel very lonely as I have no friends who are pregnant or have children and my parents are not happy about my pregnancy so are not really involved, things like not mentioning the baby or asking about how I am feeling when I speak to them etc. OH's mum has been amazing, she is so happy for us and has done more than enough to help us already, we are truly lucky to have her. I just wish that I could make some friends who are in the same situation as me who I could meet up with and chat to. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried to join a yoga group but the one in my area has been cancelled and the nearest one is quite far away. Any other ideas would be really great?

  • Off for my second 4D scan today and very excited. I've hardly slept like a big kid before Christmas!!

Does anyone know... where I live we have the option of three places to give birth, 2 hospitals and a midwifery led centre. I would really like to gie birth at the midwifery led centre but my midwife isn't keen as I had very slow labours with my first two and had to have waters broken and eventually a drip to speed labour. She says they wouldn't do this at the MLC and would transfer me to another hospital instead.

Is there anything I can be doing to promote a quicker labour or is it just "one of those things" that some people labour for longer than others?

Or am I just being selfish and shold just go to hospital and be done with it?

(I'm 30 weeks pregnant tomorrow, BTW)

    Hi Choc,
from what i understand just because the other 2 have been slow, no reason why your 3rd should be. But apart from that, why go to the hospital if that isn't what you really want? Stick to your guns with the birthing centre - as you've said, if there are complications, you'll be transferred anyway, so why not see how it goes as in all probability you won't need it but have the safety net?

Hi purplegirl, I'm 25 weeks tomorrow, seems like forever to go still but you're over half way!
I've been doing hypnobirthing classes, but that's with another friend and my OH, so not meeting any new people there. Prob doing the NCT antenatal classes which don't start until Jan though! Apparently they're great if you want to meet other people at the same stage and lots of friends have said that's how they've met and made lasting friendships. But have had no info on any other classes from the midwife (ie the free ones!) so if i want to go down the NCT route gotta pay for it and they're not exactly cheap. Especially on top of the cost of the hypnobirthing (though that's definitely worth every penny :rotfl: )
