My downs risk came back at 1:250, and we were devastated. I chose to have the amnio (which at my hospital carried a 1:100 risk of mc), but everything eventually came back as okay. Personally I needed to know one way or another, so that I could 'deal' with the future, whilst I was still pg.

I do have to slate the whole triple test issue though. Although the MW briefly explained what it was all about, the idea of 'we will deal with a bad result when the time comes' was very naive of myself, and in hindsight, I wish I had never had the test done, to save against all the stress we went through. Only those of us who have gone through it have any idea what it is like.

In closing I just want to say that you have the chance of 173 babies being 100% perfect, before you get the one that isn't. These are very very good odds (although I know that won't make it any easier for you).
  • My consultant advised against the downs tests. I was carrying twins and I lost one of them at 7 and a half weeks then had 6 more weeks of bleeding on and off and not knowing if I was going to miscarry the remaining twin or not it was horrid. I had a fair few scans and the consultant said 'if you come back higher risk will you have the amnio?' and I thought about it and decided no I wouldn't as this baby is a miracle anyway (i was told in jan i can't have kids and was booked to start IVF in June this year!) so he said what't the point then it's just something else to stress about for the pregnancy. Think about the risk. 1 in 200 is still only 0.5% chance. Tiny tiny. Please try not to worry unduly.

Although now i may have more fluid and I have worried that that can mean birth defects but am trying not to worry as that isn't going to help. I just wanted to say that we all have to live with the choices we make during our pregnancy and there is no right or wrong answer - we will worry whichever choices we make. Worrying is natural and we cant change anything. What will be will be and really trying to relax will be much better for the litttle bubba while he is in your tummy all snug.
  • Just realised I'm 13th on the list! Got some baby bits today for my pram and I went and got a ball from argos, quite comfy. *Boing*

  • Hi all

I'm 30 wks today and last night when I was lying down the baby stuck what we think was his head out in my tummy. It was this huge lump sticking up and it really frightened me, OH had to sit beside me holding my hand and he gently stroked the lump until it moved and settled back down. Now the area is really sore. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I was in tears it frightened me so much.

  • Hi,

I had a ball when I was pg with DD. I was given a leaflet by my hospital with diagrams of the best positions to sit in to get baby the right way round. Which included sitting cowboy style on a chair.

It was also helpful in the early stages of labour bouncing gave me something to concentrate on also it helps the pelvis open up.

Unfortunately it didn't help me as DD was in distress right from the start so had a C-section at 1cm after 10 hours and induction gel to speed me up.

I gave birth to Samantha clutching onto my ball. I am sure DH will be forever grateful that it was the ball I was holding onto, and not him or his hand. Even after Sammy had been born, it took me a minute or two to unpeel myself from the balll.:D
