I know the policay where I had my second was that as long as things were normal and you had the baby before 3pm you could go home after 6 hours. If you had the baby after 3pm you had to stay until the next day as there wouldn't be a doctor there to discharge you. I kept saying all day "Do you think I can go home today, do you think I can go home today?" but ended up having DD at 6pm and having to stay in - went home at 8am the next morning though! Was on the phone to OH to come and get me at 7am!

Hi 3kidsnomoney,

Didn't mean to worry you - as an 'older mother' shock horror it was mentioned to me for that reason. We had no test other than a 20 week scan when I had ds 3 years ago, so all confusing here too. Those two conditions are actually much much rarer than I had been lead to believe so the risks are minimal, which is why they only really check for Down's.

When discussing an amnio, the consultant mentioned that my chance of down's was higher than the chance of miscarriage due to invasive tests. As yours is the other way round by quite a way maybe that would help?

I think it's perhaps harder when all the info/tests etc are different from area to area, and from pregnancy to pregnancy. I may have had the same odds last time just nobody tested and told me!

3kidsnomoney - I know someone who had a reading of 1 in 35 and her baby was fine so try not to worry too much. I went for my appointment with the consultant last week ( I'm 13 +3) and told him I wasnt having the triple test ( I'm 34):eek: as we had decided it wouldnt alter the outcome whatever the results. It was then he said ' they are a waste of time with so many false positve results' It can only be your decision and I think any close family and friends would support you if you chose to tell them or not. Fingers crossed 4 u x

I can't quite believe it myself seems so surreal even though I've had 9 months to get used to the idea! :rotfl:. I can't wait to meet my little girl but I think she has plans to make me wait a little longer! :rolleyes:

The results of my triple test came back as 1:250. It was termed as high risk. The day we had the phone call from the MW, I felt like the bottom had fallen out of my world.

In hindsight, if my result had come back as 1:251, I would never have been termed high risk, and the MW would never have called us. As it is, you have the chance of having 169 babies that are perfectly fine ! These are seriously good odds, even if you cannot believe them yourself.

We opted to have an amnio. The risk of have a MC was 1:100 / 1:150, and at my hospital, that meant of the 2 / 3 amnio's they performed per week, they only lost 1 / 2 babies a year. Somehow I was able to take comfort in that.

Anyway, I know that this must be a terribly worrying time for you, but at the end of the day, you must decide what is best for you, in your personal circumstances.

Our result came back as clear (for the 3 most common syndromes) and although I had been keen to find out baby's colour prior to this 'episode', the knowledge that my baby was well, was enough for me, and we now have less than 2 months until we know for sure what colour our baby is. We have so few surprises in life these days.
