minskerella wrote: »Hi Alison, I have been looking at the Jane Slalom Pro pushchair with the matrix cup car seat (which can go flat) and have been told by Mothercare that they do not recommend flat car seats in the UK as they are not safe enough by British standards. They recommended I bought the slalom with the rebel car seat instead, or the matrix car seat but did not use the flat function in the car, only when attached to the chassis. Seen as it is the flat function which makes it more expensive I decided to go for the rebel version, and then give the baby a stretch every couple of hours. Hope that helps!!
Hiya
Thanks for that - I read the which? review on the Jane and it just said Don't buy it - as it was scored so low on their safety test. However the pushchair I want it is the bebeconfort creatis which like a baby seat that goes nearly flat CLICK - problem is I think it looks quite safe but I have no idea - and they are not that common to find either.
What do you think of it?
Thanks Alison x:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -

I had an antenatal appointment on Thursday and after worrying my bump was too small, it was measuring 33 weeks instead of 31 . I'm also feeling miserable as I now have thrush :rolleyes:. Oh, the pleasures of pregnancy!
Somehow I managed to the age of 33 without ever having 'lady issues' as my DH calls them :rotfl:

Hiya
Not sure if you know this but you can use a type of cream pessary thingy for thrush when pregnant - check with your GP but I have been prescribed them no trouble.
Alison x:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -
Did it say the Jane was unsafe in general or just the lie flat function? I don't want to buy an unsafe car seat! The bebeconfort is probably different if it does not go completely flat. Do they sell it at Mothercare? I found that they were excellent when I went in store and they knew a lot of info. Maybe they could help even if you're not planning on buying it there.0

Its says this about the Jane Matrix Cup
We weren't very impressed with this baby seat. Although it gives good front crash protection and excellent head support, side crash protection isn't great, and it's not very user friendly.
And this about the Jane Matrix Pro
This seat is designed for babies from birth to about a year (13kg). It is quite unusual in that it can carry very small babies both rearward-facing and lying flat, but in this latter mode it achieved just one star for overall safety and the risk of serious injury to a baby in a crash is far too high. Don’t buy this model.
The best buy was the maxi-cosi! Which have a free trial 30 day trial at the mo if you want to review the reports.

oooooooooooooh the pram shop just rang, our pram and car seat ready for collection! seems only 2mins ago we were ordering it!0

Thanks for that Alison - the world of prams is sooooo confusing!! Really don't know what I'm doing! Thought the more expensie the better but seems this is not always the case! Will have a look at the maxi-cosi sounds good : )0

It's been a little while since he was born, but I totally forgot to come back and update the list. Must've been busy or something

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, they certiainly help keep the spirits up!
i'm getting confused with all the moneysaving options, what to buy and what not to buy.
would it be better to have a "early years" sub forum?
what i would find helpful would be a MSE guide to MSE Baby moneysaving
this would be a series of stickies in said subforum covering:
baby freebies and vouchers - websites/companies to register with for freebies
information websites
reviews of 'stuff' (cots/car seats/nappies etc)
recomended shopping list of things you need
etc.
the thing is that the info is spreadout at the moment, and i'm tbh lost in the wealth of information, made worse by the fact that i know there are moneysaving opportunities i'm not taking advantage of!
thing is, i also appreaciate that the info should all be in the same place as much as possible (in other sub-forums), but i think as a specialist subject we should get them together, e.g http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=514823 telling us about Tommee Tippee Cotton Bottoms nappy wraps are selling in Poundland for a quid....:)0 -

Very quick post to say that baby Tom was born by section last Tuesday, we got out of hospital after exactly 48 hours (but they were all wonderful there, can't fault them) and have since been at home enjoying lots of warm soft cuddles and big wide eyes
To anyone who's scared motherhood won't come easily, you'll be surprised by how you just suddenly feel like a mum - I had no 'rush of love', just floods of tears every time someone says something nice and an overwhelming desire to never put him down. He's my baby and that's just how it is - like I woke up one morning and I was a mum. That's in spite of the birth being a section and me being totally not maternal. Here I am, completely besotted and loving breastfeeding despite it being the trickiest knack - me who hates babies!
We're off out with the pram - hopefully everyone's doing fine and I'll get back online to read through properly and catch up with what's happening as soon as I get a chance!0
