I wouldn't have received a survey, nor would I have been expecting a verbal survey.

A survey would have required written evidence of any problems with the property.

Verbally, I may have been provided with some insight into problems in more detail than the duty of care report that will be presented with my valuation will provide.
Why would they want to give you this info for free, when others are prepared to pay for it?

Amazes me that people go into a transaction probably worth hundreds of thousands and penny pinch over a hundred quid or so.

As I mentioned, I have already had building experts (albeit that they weren't official surveyors) look at the property and they didn't see any issues. A full homebuyers survey didn't seem appropriate given this insight.

I didn't want something for nothing, I wanted to be given the opportunity gain as much insight as possible during the window of the valuation for the £300 that I have paid.

Extremely surprised that on a money saving site, this is considered as (what I seem to being accused of) cheating the system.

I have a very limited budget, and am working within my means. This is certainly not "penny pinching".

.... I've still paid £300 to have the valuation conducted, even if it is for the mortgage company's primary benefit.
Yes, and you have paid the mortgage lender their costs. You need to understand that you have no comeback against the surveyor, you are not the surveyor's client. As you did not arrange your attendance via the mortgage lender, you have no comeback against them either.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

If it is that limited that £100 is an issue, I would reconsider whether you can afford to buy at all.

Thank you ValHaller, I appreciate that you are addressing the issue that I've presented.
