TESCO H&B COUPONS - New Thread *See First Post for UPDATES*

Hi
Another couple of bad shops recently - one with just a batch of money-off coupons whereby the young, male SA sifted through the pile & said he could only accept 1 (for 25p) as I hadn't bought any of the products - and another where I had bought just over £10 before bogof of H&B items and again, another young, male SA would only take 1 x £1.25 QK, saying he couldn't take the 1 x £2.50 SB saying I had not spent £10 on H&B. I then had to be firm in telling him I had bought some John Frieda for him to put the JF £1.50 one through and the additional till spit for something else. He wouldn't take any of the other moc for items that I hadn't bought. He also mentioned the 10% rule. (He also didn't add on my green points for my bags.)
Anyway, I was wondering if I would be better off trying to use the self-scanners and if anybody could give me any advice on if there was a particular order to put the coupons through or any tips/tricks.
I did my first small trial yesterday but I think practically every coupon seemed to beep for authorisation. I had a couple of moc, plus a DM magazine one, plus 2 x £1.25 QK & 1 x £2.50 SB. The (yet another) young, male SA saw my 2 x £1.25 QK in my hand and said I could only use one per tranaction. I thought 2 would work against a £10 spend (am I right?) but then didn't dare try it. The good news was that everything else went through.
How do the self-scanners work in terms of putting coupons through? Does each voucher need to be authorised and would the SAs stop you scanning the vouchers? Is there any kind of limit either in terms of number/value that you can use?
Many thanks in advance.
Mardrew
PS Have just returned from the store where the above negative shops took place. I was going to try the self-scanner there but couldn't see one and so tried another young, male SA. He put all my coupons through and I wanted to kiss him when he manually started inputting the code from the fuzzy DM Harpers & Queen voucher! Just shows that there is no consistency even within stores never mind across stores!
PPS Have taken Leadhead's advice and have started compiling a list of these SAs so I will remember (if my descriptions work) who was good & who was bad at accepting vouchers/coupons.
I use ss majority of time due to fact not being confident of sa,there is no pattern on these tills ( value or number of vouchers) as to when it beeps for authorisation,90% of the time the sa will authorise it no prob. HTH:o0 -
Oohh the excitement yesterday when I finally found some of the Active packs in my local store - I was SO excited as I sneaked 4 away.
The disappointment when I ran back to the car and opened them to find they had expired!
What annoys me is that these have definitely not been out on show before - I have been looking everywhere for them - and then they put them out once they are out of date!
Still did find 2 Quit Packs left in a box so am off today to see what goodies I can get for next to nothing!
EssexMaid these out of date ones are at the little Tesco in Hornchurch! I picked up the last two Quit Packs, if they have any when I go tomorrow, I'll get you some.
Just reading through some of the posts before I nip out (might see if I can pop into a different Tesco on my way to search out coupons) can I just ask:-
Can I use more than 1 £1.25 coupon from the Quit Packs (the new ones)? Some of you seem to be able to hand in more than one - I know you could with the old ones providing one was Beauty and one Toiletries.
and secondly
Where are the Joh Freida coupons coming from? EDIT: I now know the answer to this! Will keep my eyes peeled.
Cheers
Also, what's the deal with the Colgate - I have QK2 vouchers and an odd one for points and a kiddies Colgate one - will they all work on one tube of grown ups toothpaste?0 -

Because of the nature of SS tills....(self scan) they are programmed to reject rather than accept, so in theory, they must be a worse option, as at least the manned tills dont ask for authorisation, or put doubt in the SA's mind, that something "may not be right".
As for inconsistency in policy....you have to remember Mr T's ploicy is........"We have no consistent policy"
And re my advice.......excellent, I only try to give tried and tested advice, so glad to see it works for others too.

Hi Mardew
I have started using self scan due to a real clap down in our stores on coupons on numberous occasions. It took a little practise but here is my guide if you decide to give it a go:
start with a small shop and a simple coupon
When you get to the checkout bit select coupon/vouchers
scan coupon
machine will say if it is accepted and ask you to post it in the slot
Sometimes it does not acknowledge it is in there - try blowing in the slot or poking a bit of paper in - the till supervisor showed me how to do this!
Mine are set to beep for authorisation if coupon use is over 50% of bill
post coupon and wait for SA - they will often just authorise
If you want to use a clubcard points coupon then swipe your card then select coupons
Best tip of all - take a sweet 5 year old with you, let them swipe it all and blame them if it goes wrong. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Hi everyone
I have now got over 80 quit kits from my local tesco but no sign of the H&b or the Sb vouchers.
I asked a Cs lady and she said the H&B went out two weeks ago so I fear I have missed the boat on that one
Anyway, just wanted to ask a few questions from the more experienced people.
I have lots of the quit kits but nothing else, whats the etiquette on PTS if you want to swap?
for instance, how many do you usually swap at once, do you send them off at the same time and do you need to send them recorded so theres no dispute?
I am jumping at the bit to go and do a practise run with lots of different vouchers as the bug has truly bitten me :rotfl:
I did a mini run this afternoon by buying 2 Lynx and 2 Timotei shampoo's and used 1 £1.25 quit kit, thing is, they have a star on them on my receipt as well as the toilet rolls and fabric conditioner I bought, are they all classed as H&B and could I then have used another £1.25 as it would have come to over a tenner?

Couldn't agree more, there is no consistency to the SS authorisation rules. In general it seems to ask approval on the 3rd/4th coupon or if you go over 30%, whichever occurs first. I used about £50 of coupons the other day and after 10 coupons it asked for approval, which was about 30%. It then let me enter about another 10 before asking for approval and then didn't ask for approval again.
Using SS tills is SA dependant - some will approve unlimited numbers whilst others will approve once or twice before coming over to check what you're scanning.
As for clubcards, I only use one when I do my weekly shop in my local store where I never abuse the coupon policy. I don't use them on clothing/h&b shops as if I ever have to act innocent of "coupon abuse", they've got nothing to hold over me. A detailed clubcard history of recent shops wouldn't do anyone any favours if you're making the most of clothing/h&b coupons.0 -

Just wanted to update you with my first major foray into Tescodom...
After a bad experience a week ago when the sa wouldn't take any coupons from me at all, I was rather nervous but I had bought quite a few newspapers and wanted to try the vouchers out and try and recoup some of my money.
I printed out the barcode that was posted for the £2.70 voucher as mine was very blurry and took that along with me on my shop.
I got a trolley and had about £14 worth of stuff in it but thought I would have a go at self scan first with a few bits and also to see if the printed off barcode would work.
Got a basket and transferred a few things into it while hubby carried on walking round the store with the trolley trying not to look suspicious :rotfl:
Scanned everything in the basket and total was £7.78 so tried the printed voucher for £2.70 and was amazed when it scanned perfectly!
I then put the blurry voucher into the coupon slot and the printed one back into my bag and no one was any the wiser!
It did beep for authorization but she gave permission without even looking at the screen :T
Used two more £1.99 Esquire ones and bleeped both times but the sa wasn't bothered at all, total to pay was £1.10!
I was scared to death at the time but felt victorious after!
After this success I then spotted a young boy and made a beeline for him with what was left in the trolley.
Asked as I was putting things on the trolley if it was ok to use some coupons and he said fine.
He did only let me use 1 of each though but I still got £5.68 off a £6.50 shop
Got back into the car grinning madly by now ( new experience for me getting something for nothing!) and realised we had no teabags so ran back in and was going to buy the cheapy ones as the Pg tips I normally buy were very expensive but then realised I didn't have to buy the cheapy ones as I could use vouchers to pay for them :T
Added some Nescafe Cappuccino's box of 10 sachets on £3 for two along with 2 packs of Pg tips for £4.50 for 2 and went back to the same lad.
He was just going off on a break but agreed to serve me, same scenario as before, 1 of each coupon, £5.68 off total of £7.50 leaving only £1.82 to pay!
I was absolutely made up, as was hubby so now we have a new hobby, and its all thanks to the posters on these boardsStopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -

Blimey leadhead, you do know how to tease.
I have loads of new quits so if anyone who can't get any wants some then let me know, as long as they don't end up as swaps on PTS :beer:0
