Sheesh. So your self assessment form is empty is it?Brooker_Dave wrote: »Do you think someone should demand to pay duty on goods even if it's not been asked for???
I would assume advice on this site should keep people within the law and not within the used car salesman's guide..0 -

This law?
"Currently this means that:
consignments with an intrinsic value of £15 or less are free from both customs duty and import VAT"

"You must not use the approved LVBI concession for imports of low value commercial goods. This is one of the conditions of the LVBI authorisation."
I believe importing to sell would class them as commercial goods.
If you are so sure that this is a profitable item, just do it yourself..0 -
Yeah but if you bring in a pallet load of them then it is worth more than £15 isn't it.0

There have been a lot of cases recently of listings being pulled by Apples lawyers via ebays VERO system. Some of them been due to the Chinese lookalikes looking too alike! Even some cases of people being banned when they chose to ignore the warnings and relist.Cornucopia wrote: »There are hundreds of lookalike listings in electronics - I've had quite a few myself in the past.
Back then, eBay seemed to operate on the principle that as long as the famous brand wasn't mentioned in the listing, it was okay. Has this changed?
I am aware of one person recently being investigated by Trading Standards for supplying dangerous Chinese made chargers that I believe caused some damage. This person actually purchased them from another UK supplier. They had to attend an interview with TS and it was all very serious.TrickyWicky wrote: »So it's back to the mains power / transformer threat do you think?
I saw something on rip off britain with Dom a week or two back where they were talking about chinese mains transformers being iffy. I can't help but wonder just how many of those are in circulation without us knowing.
For more about these, and if you are serious about importing for selling as a business there is a lot useful info on the Wholesale Forums - https://www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk
Oh and please ignore Dave! He lives in some strange la-la land and really doesn't know what he is talking about!0 -

Then duty and vat will be payable.
From what I can keep up with this thread, you seem to be suggesting it won't be because of the £15 limit. If you import a pallet load of goods, the value is higher than that limit and thus vat and duty will be payable.
Someone did question your self assesment form lol.
Seriously I want to do this the legal way with no trouble but it's looking to be an uphill struggle.0 -

Other people including me manage it.
Why is it becoming such a struggle??"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

HMRC have good guidance online and over the phone to help with importing.Oh and please ignore Dave! He lives in some strange la-la land and really doesn't know what he is talking about!
Also try some business start up sites for help. There used to be Business Link but it's changed, not sure where to look right now.
Federation of Small Businesses can offer advice too. Though they may require you to be a member..0 -
