There are plenty of other lines that aren't lookalikes. Not only that, but the Argos product kind of sets a benchmark for how close something can be without being a fake of a famous brand.

    What was illegal about it??
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I really don't know about the look alike aspect, personally I'd steer clear. I didn't actually say it was illegal, I said "Doing it legally there wasn't even £6 profit in there." I was simply referring to paying all the relevant taxes.

What taxes are there on something that costs £12??

Is this the 5 minute argument or the full half hour?

If you're buying to sell you should be paying duty on it. Then there'd be taxes on the profit. I was assuming you were advising OP to do this as a business as they had initially mentioned, not just buying one.

You haven't been advising George Osborne lately have you? That would explain a lot.

But there is no duty on imports below a certain value.

Would you demand to pay tax when no tax is due???

You may not be charged duty below a certain amount, if you're a business you are meant to pay it. That aside, is your business proposal to the OP that he imports one at a time? Blimey.

:rotfl: You two could keep this up for days.

Dave's argument seems to be that you can simultaneously buy in bulk to obtain volume discounts AND import one at a time to avoid paying import tax & duty. Hope that cleared that up, RFW ;)

Do you think someone should demand to pay duty on goods even if it's not been asked for???

And yes, start by buying one, and then if they're any good buy a load of them.

    Not hard, is it?

No, you buy one, and if they're any good you buy more.

If you buy in bulk the discount for doing so will offset the duty and vat and mean that the price is roughly the same, or less.

Do I need to explain *everything* to you guys??
