I tried refunding a BACS payment on Monday this week and the bank told me I could not unless I knew what the original sender's details were, so I was making my premise based on First Direct. I also do not think the McCanns would find it easy to start refunding thousands and thousands of cheques or money coming in from well-wishers. They would then need to set up an organisation or club for refunding all the money kindly donated, and you would all have a go at that too. The media would have also flogged them for being ungrateful. Again, they can't win.

I don't see what the point is arguing about the fact that the British public have decided out of the kindness of their own hearts to donate money to the McCanns? They get criticised for accepting money from the great British public who is choosing to donate (do you want to have a go at the British public now? ) and they would get slated for turning it all back.

oh come on, it wasnt meant as a serous post.

Hmm, for some people it seems this whole affair is just a big laugh or an excuse to have a go at other's failings.

I just find the dissapearance and the opinions of some of those who have commented in this thread terribly saddening.

The parents will be giving their first interview on Sky at 17.00 It'll be interesting to see what they say, although I expect their 'advisors' have already told Sky what questions they can't ask.

I was talking to a friend last night and, with regards to the money, we came to the conclusion that if it is funding volunteers to assist with the search and inquiries then it is a good thing but if it is just funding the McCanns extended stay and their childcare costs then we weren't so sure - its not supposed to be a hardship fund.

Everyone I have discussed this with - and it does seem to be on the tip of everyone's tongues, which is good - seems to have the opinion that they wouldn't wish this on their worst enemy but that, given the information (alledged or otherwise), the parents have only themselves to blame.

We all want Madeliene back safe and sound but deep down feel that this is increasingly unlikely.

I've also been told (and may be chinese whispers syndrome here) that although the apartment and the bar are close as the crow flys, the route back is not straight and you have to walk down several streets.

Something else that has occured to me is that the holiday company should be being slated for putting in place such inadequate childcare provision. Personally, I would never use anything other than a one-to-one babysitting service and probably not even that but the fact that this roving service is available makes it
a: seem ok to parents to leave their child
b: an open invitation to dodgy characters

Good on the great British public but, personally, I'd like to see how the money is being used.

Yes - It's well documented that when the parents checked on the children, they turned left onto a road, by the Tapas Bar,walked down towards the end of the road, and left into an unlocked entrance by the botom of the Apartment. It was one road, not several.

My 11 year old son just told me at bedtime, tomorrow he's been asked to wear a yellow t-shirt with the rest of the school, and to take in 50p for the privelage which is going to be donated to the fund.
He isnt going to, not because I dont care, but because I honestly cant see how this will help Maddy.
My heart goes out to her and her siblings. God bless.

I would be really annoyed if my child's school did that. It's such an empty gesture. I would think the school just want pictures in the local paper.
Like you it's not that I don't care and wouldn't be thrilled if I turned on the news to find that Madeleine had been found and was with her family, but I just feel that there is so much preventable misery and suffering in the world that I choose to give my money to try to alleviate that. My money isn't going to bring the McCanns daughter home.

The Parents had the oppertunity of using a baby sitting service or putting the children in a creche. For whatever reason they didn't.

But is this really the case? If so then why the need for posts such as this appealing to people to donate to an undefined cause? Should people follow blindly on without discussion and raid their piggy banks? Many people who donate to such a fund will be in financial difficulties themselves and in light of debate may question whether their own need is greater than that of the McCanns!
Personally I find it refreshing the fund was refused charity status there is nothing charitable about this whole affair.

You seem to have overlooked answering tt's earlier question so I thought I would pose it again as your posts leave the impression you are talking with some authority however I suspect they are pure speculation as is so much that has been posted on this subject.

I for one find myself unconsiously reaching for the air freshener when the news comes on these days.
Thirdly, do you know this family? If not then how do you know how the fund was instigated?

I was thinking of that myself judging by todays report in the Mirror about the criticism about the portugese cops.

    déjà vu!

They have been down that route before and the family said at that time, having ago at the police holds no benefits in solving this case.

I personally tent to agree, I'm sure they know the world is watching and looking at them for a conclusion very soon. What frustrates me is that after the continued coverage over the last 3 weeks the public interest has reached a peak and police don't tell the press a great deal (I understand they can't) so a lot of what we hear or read has come from the Portuguese media speculation but to me we don't seem to be any further forward. I'm only hoping that the police are simply not telling us but are in fact getting nearer to finding her.

I have seen no evidence to suggest that she wasn't taken from her bed.
Yes the dogs picked up her scent but what's to say that it wasn't from the day before? (I don't know so genuine question)

The Police as of yesterday still say she was a sleep in her bed. If she was taken in this way then surly who ever did it knew she was in there and it was planned as I can't see anybody just trying a door with the off chance that, 1. it is unlocked and 2., it has a little girl in it.

Lets try and keep this thread polite and friendly.
    Regards,
    Dave
