I really could do with some advice if poss!! I really really want to give MS and AQA a try, the thing is, the tax and self employed bit makes it all sound very scary! Im currently in full time employment and earning under 20k, I would love to do MS and AQA as a second job. Could someone please put me out of my misery and explain it all step by step...I realise its a lot to ask but I would be so grateful.

If you find a company like TNS they work on PAYE system and they pay your NI and tax for you and you don't have to do anything with the self assessment, or the tax office.
I work for both PAYE and do my own tax. I have just got my tax return and had an appointment at the tax office today. They were very helpful. I started up a spreadsheet with the companies that I deal with and list all the payment, reinbursements and mileage. The tax office only wanted my P60, bank interest and what I have made in MS. They were very nice and it was not as scary as I thought either. Hope this info helps you.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

If you read this thread through, it DOES explain it all (especially the first few posts). Hope this helps!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Hi There,
I've also read that some people make loses on jobs, how do you make a loss? Surely the company has to pay out expenses and give you a 'wage' for doing the job?
In response to your question about making a loss, it's probably only a loss on paper, so it helps offset some of the tax. e.g. if you do a pizza place they don't pay you for doing the job - i.e. no wages, but you get a free meal. So on paper you make a record of the fact that it cost you x number of miles at 40p per mile to get there and back and also you had to print off 12 pages of the report at 6p per sheet.
So you probably reckon it's worth it for a "free" meal, but on paper it maybe cost you £3 or something. This then helps offset other jobs where you have actually made a profit.
So, hope that helps explain how you can apparently make a "loss".0 -

I had to enquire about an item costing over £80 and then make a small purchase.
Nowhere in the questionnaire does it ask what I enquired about or the names and/or descriptions of the assistants who served me, and at the end it didnt ask me to upload my receipt.
Very strange.
To be on the safe side, I'd go to "my assignments", because if you're expected to upload a receipt and you haven't they might not pay. If you should have uploaded one, then alongside the job it will say in red, if I remember correctly - "Upload receipt" and you can click on it and upload that way.
This happened to me at one of the stamp shops and I thought, oh that's funny that they don't want a receipt this time and thought nothing more of it.
I only noticed by accident when checking another job that it obviously just missed that option on screen when I completed the assignment.
Might be worth checking!0 -

If you have the receipt, keep it safe so you can send it to them (or upload) if they have a query with the assignment. I regularly do coffee shops for Gap, and they don't want a receipt uploaded, but every so often they have a query and ask me to upload the receipt. Normally this resolves the issue.Ex board guide.
