With the new mystic web, does anyone know whether they will still send out emails or is it a question of keep checking the website.
Does anyone also know how they allocate jobs in your area? I.e. how far away from the postcode is an area? Is it worth me putting additional postcodes for the nearby towns into the system?

    Cheers

    Hi

I wonder if someone can help me. I have trawled through pages of this thread and the previous one but can't find an answer to my questions.

I have just been made redundant and I have now signed up for NOP as my partner used to work for them and they were really good. I also signed up for Gapb but from reading the threads I might just stick to NOP. Anyway I have not yet accepted an assignment from either as I am unsure what to do about Tax and NI.

1/ If I just stick with NOP is it a case of letting them work out the tax and working out any differences at end of year (as my previous job will also count)? I presume then I don't need to go self-employed?

2/ If I do consider GAP I am guessing I don't need to inform the tax office about self-employed status until I do an actual assignment?

3/ Also I have just signed up for contribution based JSA - when do they need to know that I am working? I have recieved acceptence for both mystery shopper companies so am I now employed even though I haven't earned anything yet?

Any help you can give will be appreciated as I am getting myself tied up in knots over this. I really want to give MS a go as I want to be able to stay at home with my kids now instead of going back into full-time work.

  • Does anyone know what Gapbuster consider to be a "session"??

I just tried to do one of the client-specific certification tests, and got one question wrong - could kick myself but that's beside the point - and it says I only have 3 attempts to get it right in "one session"

Does that mean if I log off and log in again, I can try again - or do I have to wait until tomorrow - or what???

    Thanks
    CA x

Yaaaay I've just been able to re-do it, and passed!

Found this on the assignments FAQ on the new mystic Select thing on Grass

"As soon as appropriate assignments are available, in the area of any addresses we hold for you, we send an email to your email address. Either click on the link in this email or go to our website separately and log on."

You have GOT to tell the tax office you are doing self-employed work. It doesn't matter if you tell them early but it definitely matters if you tell them late IYSWIM. You have nothing to lose by telling them. Even people who set up a business and make a loss in the first year HAVE to tell the tax office, you have 3 months to do so, or face consequences.

If you tell HMRC you are self-employed, you have ONE self-assessment tax return to do each year (covering April-March). If the company you work for pays the tax for you it's still important to keep their paperwork (P60 at tax year-end) as this figure still needs to go on your tax return.

    Hi There,

I have just sat and read through 37 pages and think I'v confused myself beyond belief about something that is supposed to be fairly easy to understand :o

I want to earn some extra pennies to help pay off my debts but is this the way to go?

I am due a baby in a few weeks so will I be able to do it with a baby? If so do you find you get less work? I can't imagine it to be worth getting child care for

I don't drive so would that be a problem?

I've also read that some people make loses on jobs, how do you make a loss? Surely the company has to pay out expenses and give you a 'wage' for doing the job?

As a rule should you sign up to more companies too increase chances of work?

I've also heard about questionnaires and surveys that need to be completed to check for relevance to jobs. Is that the same as paid surveys where you basically say yes to everything to increase your chances?

Any help greatly appreciated from a confused one :D
