Wasn't it Ford who ran a Focus for 100k miles with Mobile One oil in ?. When they drained it and inspected the engine it was like new.

I would highly doubt that as Ford do not recommend Mobil 1 and neve have.

Ford have been closely linked to Castrol for well over a decade. As are Volvo since they started sharing engines and platforms a few years ago.

I know BMW ran a 325i for over a million miles on Mobil 1 but it was changed at the normal intervals.

I have never heard of Ny manufacturer running a vehicle on one fill of Mobil 1.

I would be interested to read about it if they did.

But I have never heard of it.

Most Fords, including diesels, are specced for A1,B1/A5,B5 5w30 oil, either semi or full synth though even Ford Formula F is full synth Nd that is the cheapest oil most Ford dealers carry.

The Focus RS and possibly the ST (5 cylinder Volvo engine) run slightly different oils as does the Ford KA.

Mobil don't specify Mobil 1 for Fords and Volvos usually, they tend to spec Mobil Super 3000 X1 FE 5w30 which is A5,B5 and also meet the stricter Ford spec which ends in "C" the older specs ended in "A" and "B", can't remember the rest of the spec off hand, starts WSS I think.

I use Mobil 1 in the wife's Clio and it has too high a HTHS to be used in most Ford engines.

But if you check the oil they use it is a very specific type of oil.

If Ford put a different factory fill that is changed out at 1000 miles then it would never be intended to run 18k.

Different engines are harder or easier on their oil.

The kind of use the cars sees also affects things.

If it didn't need a 1000mile oil change then that is all good.

But if it is the 1.25 Fiesta that engine is fairly old as is the 1.4 petrol.

They would normally be run on a semi synthetic oil.

Which is fine for 12.5k or so, though I would suspect would need to be changed at half that if the vehicle was used in stop start, urban use all the time.

If somebody thinks the oil that is meant to be left in 18k is the same as the oil that is meant to be left in 12.5k is the same is deluded.

Try and buy the the longlife oil for VAG engines, look at the price of it.

Then price up the oil for the normal service schedule.

Completely different oils, different additive packages, different detergent properties and very different TBN which explains why one is fine for 18k and one is not.

At the end of the day the OP has learned a painful lesson that she will never repeat.

The rest of the car, apart from the engine is unlikely to be badly troubled by a missed service.

A new Ford lump will give the car good providence rather than a used or recon lump from somewhere else.

If the car was three or four years old my opinion would change.

From now on I suspect she will be extremely careful about such things.

A pity she didn't ask on here sooner, but hindsight is a lovely thing.

With a new Ford engine she can look forward to another 10 years of use from the vehicle which I would look at £250 a year for the engine.

As there is no reminder it may be an idea to write it down on a post it note or similar and place it on the inside of the sun isle.

Is easy enough to remember now as it has 18k so next service is around 30k.

A car can easily cope with going a thousand miles past or even two thousand past if it is used on long journeys with little stop start.

Sadly the OP pushed it a little too far.

    We all make mistakes.

And the OP's boyfriend owes the OP a slap up meal for being lax in his "man duties".:rotfl:

My Kia is every 20000 and wasnt aware it was a specific type of oil apart from fully synthetic

it is a lease car though so maybe they have extended the interval as I/we do high mileages

This gets better and better - so the finance company said I would get an answer yesterday or today and would know either way. So I give them a quick ring and instead of an answer I get a "Sorry who is this? We have no case on file? We never received any report or letter!"

I had to laugh (to stop me from crying) letters were sent recorded - previous emails and conversations stated they had received both. They then stated it could take up to 8 weeks to look into now.

So again I seeked legal advice and was told to contact Financial Ombudsman Service which I have now done. They basically send a letter to finance company and say sort it out? I don't know my brain is so full of bits of information - lies and stress. I wish Ford would just buy the damn car off me they can have it in its current state I would take the less value just So I have something! (and can buy a car) I also wish the finance company had said NO rather than pretend like they have no idea of who I am! This whole situation is crazy, unbelievably mad!

Safe to say today I have had abit of a break down! and crying like a complete and utter women all day as no further forward and nobody gives the slightest hoot! I have contacted everyone directly and will be ringing Ford CS again and literally beg them to take the car off me?

Why oh Why did I decide to carry this fight on each week it gets worse.
