Also, it may well be that servicing would not have made any difference to the failure that has occurred but it is a condition of the warranty that you have it serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule so you have given them a massive opportunity to void the warranty.0

There was no warning or sign the car was about to spit oil everywhere. Thanks for your advice everyone.
No they don't. They should be serviced when the manufacturer says they should. That is often 12k miles but could be anywhere from 7.5k to 25k depending on make and model. You need to know your own car's requirements.0 -
Yes. Yes I should!Ask.. Believe.. Receive..

I sympathise with the OP, and I am not having a dig at her, but I do think it is a shame that people can buy a car and assume that someone will write to them, or a light will flash, to tell them that it needs a service. Owner involvement seems a thing of the past. I have noticed over the last few winters that more and more cars seem to have headlight bulbs out. I can only assume that people either no longer check their lights, or think that it's the garage's job and it can wait until the next service.
OP, I hope you get it sorted. It seems like the car has had a significant mechanical failure, which would have nothing to do with whether it was serviced on schedule or not. That might be your best approach with the manufacturer. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Still, without being too pessamistic it seems the dealer has failed on several levels.
It looks like no reminder was sent out, or if it was, the OP never got it or it the car broke before the reminder went. Most dealers get these out fairly sharpish to get the business in.
Second the OP clearly wasn't told about the servicing. Amazed this didn't come up in the sales process.
Third, no handbook. Serious failing on the part of the dealer i think. Not great for the OP they never asked for it but a strong point to argue they were simply not made aware of the terms and conditions for the warranty. I'd suspect that could be something to try on with Ford.
Fourth - the report looks like it could well show there was a manufacturing fault with the car. If an independent report says that and it was nothing to do with the servicing then the OP should have a good case.
I would take this forward OP. You have a number of complaints about the dealer to take to Ford. Get on to them direct.
EDIT: just to add, i am pretty sure this car should have a service indicator/oil warning light on start upWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
That mileage isn't going to help you BUT, I would still ask the question that what would be changed on the first service that would of prevented this from happening?0

Owner involvement - I admit I do not know enough and this was the first new car I have even got. I only passed my test last year (with the AA in a ford which is what swayed my decision) My first actual car was a hand me down 1.5 diesel 106 from my mum that is funnily enough serviced regular but by a family friend and with warranty I was unsure if another person could touch it or if this would void it. I had every intention of getting a service this month (would be a year old) I know my mileage is fairly high - I was told that a service would not have prevented this but can now see and understand how this can void a warranty as can seem negligent on my part.Ask.. Was there not a glowing "Orange Oil Can" in the left hand dial that lit up on or around 12.5K Miles?
On the four current model Fiesta's I've owned this has been the case. It basically tells you that if you havent booked me in for a service I need one now! (Not to be confused with the red oil pressure warning *serious*)
However if you want to reset the warning it's dead easy to do with a couple of pedal presses and the push of a button.
I'm afraid having your car serviced when recommended by the maufacturer and regularly checking oil, water, tyres etc is the drivers responsibility.
I hope you get your Fiesta fixed and enjoy a happy future together, they really are great little cars.0 -
The oil is checked at least every few weeks - not by me admittedly but the boyfriend he drives the car as often as I do.
There was no light onalthough they tried to tell me that I turned it off and then a week later told me this car does not have one. (confused)

I know the priority is to get them to pay for the repair, but if that isn't successful did they mention a part ex price against new?
I was just thinking if the difference is around the cost of the repair it's worth going for, due to the fact that if you unfortunately end up not being able to claim and having to get it repaired, you still won't have the remaining two years warranty. Just a thought anyway as I noticed my local Ford dealer was massively reducing the old shape Fiestas last month.0
