I moved some direct debits by a few days so my wages were in first. The companies were more than happy to change the dates

I advise a lot of people to do that too and it really helps and many companies will change dates over the phone without having to sign new mandates etc - nice one

I sent the standard letter to my bank with a £10 cheque requested the list of fee's i have had to pay for the last six years. However they have only sent me charges since July 06. Can anyone tell me why they have not provided details of my charges between 2002 - July 2006?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I assume you know you had charges between these dates?
• Do not want to offend, but am very curious here.....Sorry to ask this but it is something I am trying to understand with working in the industry :confused: Why have you not learned from your mistakes and got into this situation again with charges??? Did you not learn anything? I am not being funny but it is something I have to deal with each day with customers shouting and giving abuse and I just can't understand that if you have been in trouble, got help to get out of it then why did you not change your financial habits. Martin offers plenty of help and advice???

Not offended though was more looking for advice than a lecture. Its a case of being a struggling student, having my account emptied by Paypal hackers and not quite catching up as it takes too long for 'proceedures' to be of any help, and once i got charges one month, they seemed to rack up each month following as they timed badly with paydays and other things and be disproportionate to the actual value. eg being charged £45 for being £2 overdrawn (when the going overdrawn was caused by the charges being applied in the first place) Anyhow, im not looking to explain myself, i was asking for advice, which is what i thought this thread was meant for?

Can i claim for further disproportionate charges when i have claimed previously for previous charges?

I received around 75% of the total charges owed to me from the Abbey. Totalling around £800.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Does any one know whether I can claim for the whole 100% if the court case is successful? This obviously depends on the outcome of the court case. But because I didn’t officially reject the offer (They deposited the money directly into my account) will I be able to claim the outstanding 50%?

Any Thoughts?

Hi, sorry if you thought I was lecturing you, Iwasn't and really needed to understand so thank you for that. I would still try to claim because at the end of the day if a charge going out has caused another charge to apper then that is unfair, real unfair. I have been able to refer cases and get a good percentage of the charge if not all of it refunded but they will look at things like if other items went out of the account too the same day and you would have been charged anyway. Most banks notify you of when a charge is to be taken out if it is a going over your overdraft charge so they expect you to leave money in to cover it but if you can see a pattern of a charge causing a charge and having a knock on effect then try and get those back. hope that helps ;) and I am sorry you have had stress over charges as students do have a lot to juggle financially but do your nest to get them back o.k ;)

Could be a simple admin error, ring and tell them you paid for 6 years of statements and not got them and request they redo the order and obviously you won't have to pay. Or, you can write in to the head office of most banks to ensure it is keyed in from their end. Whether you had charges or not going back 6 years they should still have sent you statements for 6 years. Good luck

I have spoken to someone who works for lloyds/tsb. Anyone claiming bank charges from them will have their account closed. Surely this is wrong and they are not allowed to do this.

i have read on here (somewhere), that this is illegal but does happen... although you can then sucessfully take them to court... at more cost and hassle to you, but lets face it they'd never admit it was because the person had tried to reaclim they're charges back, and would surely mention some random loop hole such as they wore the wrong colour on a tuesday/they disliked the initial A being in their name/ the customer forgot to inform the bank that they had changed their mobile number... so whether the customer would win that fight would be hard to tell...

they can however completely leagally shut down any over draft facillities... (which was why i didn't push the refund through in my case as it was a lot less then my overdraft at the time...)

hello,

I only sent away for my list of charges because I couldnt bring myself to trawl through the 8 years of statements I have in my cupboard. I did however compare the charges statement from the bank with my original paper monthly statements when it came back. There are over £300 worth of charges listed on my original statements that are not on the charges the bank provided me with for my £10. Is that fraud? Is it the first time? I searched the site to see if it had happenend to anyone else I couldnt see another thread (but I`m new so probably missed it!).
Thanks
selma
