Q: What should I do if I have only recently received my first one or two bank charges?
A: Most banks will usually give you one or two ‘free hits’. In other words call up, and politely request the money back. Most times they’ll agree and you won’t have to go through the whole reclaiming procedure.
I have been charged around £70 in the last three months for going over my allowed overdraft. I have read the above advice but was wondering if anyone could offer me any more advice? Is there anything in particular I should be saying and that type of thing? I could do with the money to pay off my credit card!2025 Wins

An unauthorised overdraft is not 'borrowing' and is as good as taking money that does not belong to you, but belongs to other depositors. This could be regarded as theft.
Theft is an offence punishable at least by a fine. The banks make the fines/charges for unauthorised removal of money from accounts quite clear for anyone who cares to check.
However, charges for authorised borrowing/overdrafts may have been unfair and it is good that THESE charges have been challenged.
In nearly 50 years I have had only 2 or 3 occasions where I was charged by banks and on every occasion had them removed by simply contacting my bank immediately. :A
Why wait 6 or more years to complain after not bothering until the media stir it up??0 -
Hello,
Just before all the bank charge claims were put on hold, I managed to get £750 of a £5000 claim. Lloyds TSB had put this money into my bank without asking and saw it as a claim closure. I still wanted to claim the rest but then saw that all claims were put on hold so i didnt do anything about it. The letter from states that they are happy to re-open the case if I so wished.
Do I still have a chance of claiming the rest of my money after this situation in the light of the Courts ruling.
Please help.
Thank you

What is the best way to get bank statements from the past 6 years, and can you get them from longer back then that, and is there a fee to pay.
Many Thanks0 -
I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I've not been on this forum since the "stay" was put in place. I won £4,500 from Barclays and subsequently asked them for the other charges they levied during my battle with them to be repaid. They gave the usual answer, and since the hold has been in place it is at stalemate.
My question is on behalf of my daughter, who has not commenced her claim against HSBC yet, and my second claim. Should these charges be pronounced as unfair, or partially unfair, opening the gates for the claims to recommence, will it have to go through the court stage? Would we need to apply to the courts for their judgement on individual cases, when a judgement has been (will be)made against the banking industry. Thanks in advance. :money:0 -

As far as I am aware, that will be the big bonus of having these charges declared as unfair - that you won't have to go to court because that has already been done.0
