Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges article discussion Part II

I thought I'd share this, as previously this year I successfully reclaimed several hundred pounds from my bank. It took them a while to respond, but they didn't resist, and offered me 75% of the total as a goodwill gesture. Whilst I have been on top of my accounts since, and have been working closely with my bank to ensure not to incur charges, I have to say the goodwill has now apparently worn very thin.
Today I received my bank's new account terms & conditions. The not-so-aptly-named Smile bank, has revised their charges for overdraft facilities, and having clearly listened carefully to their customers, and what is going on in the world of banking charges at the moment have decided on the following:
For an unauthorised overdraft, there will now be a £20 monthly charge, This used to be £15.
For each day (up to a max. of 4 days) of the month the account is in unauthorised overdraft, will now cost £20 per day. This used to be £5.
Each unpaid item will now cost £30. This was £25.
So by my reckoning, if a debit card payment takes the account say, 10p into unauthorised overdraft for just 1 day, this will cost a minimum of £40. If you can't then put the account back within agreed limits, then it would cost up to £100.
Boy am I glad that their goodwill has now run out? :mad:0 -
Hello Beci. Yes you have just about summed it up, I heard about this on the CAG site I subscribe to both because without them all I would not have gone through with my claim the help and "goodwill" of these people is second to none.! (the true meaning of the word goodwill not the cover up job ) I believe this is the scam they propose to use to opt out of the OFT Case in January?0

 Boy am i mad. For years i was told by Halifax staff that as long as money was paid into an account before 2.30pm, a direct debit would still be honoured for that day. Yesterday i had a dd due out, i knew i was £7.00 short so at 2pm i paid £10.00 into my account. I checked the account this morning to find the dd hadn't gone through. I rang the 'help' line to be told that this arrangement had ceased a few months ago. I asked if they had informed customers of this only to be told that it was a 'loose' agreement so no they hadn't informed customers. I argued that weather or not it was a 'loose' agreement, if they accepting an arrangement, then change it they should still inform customers, otherwise how are they to know.
I know i should have got the money in the day before & i did try but when i got to the city centre branch at 5.15pm after finishing work it was closed (other branches shut later). I am now going to write in to claim the £39.00!!!!! charge they are going to slap on my account. Am i right or not??? Grrrrrrrrr

Hi there,
Just thought I would let anyone out there who think they are not getting anywhere with their claim know that after about 8 months our bank has finally paid out in full approx £8500 in charges.
We thought it would be harder for us in Scotland as the iaw is slightly different but we got it.
We wrote to the bank 3 times, then applied to the sheriff court for payment(£750 per claim because we are in Scotland). This was granted and the bank paid, then we applied for another £750 and the bank paid, when we applied for a third the bank said we had accepted the offer as full and final paymet(which we never) so we took it to the FO, then after acouple of months we got a letter from the FO saying the bank does not think these charges are un fair or un lawfull but to stop any investigation with the FO they agreed to pay us back the charges but they did not deduct the £1500 they had already paid us so it was win win for us. The bank was HBOS(bank of scotland).
So for anyone out there who are still trying keep going and you will win.:j0 -
if you start claiming now are the banks dealing with them or are they waiting for the results of the case. is it easy to move overdraft from one bank to another will they ask why need to move.0
