  • Just a quick one, well here I was busy trying to reclaim my PPi and getting into the swing of it, when OH get letter from HSBC stating charges of £155.00 in overdraft charges, he has never gome OD before so he gets on the phone thinking they would refund them anyway they were quite snotty and refused whixh urprised me as I did it once and without hesitation they refunded them, these charges were 2 for £50.00 and 2 for £25.00 the money was on the way to the bank but was a day late. Today he receives another letter stating another £100 pound charges for arrangment fees, so phones them again and basically got told to swing that totals £255.00 in charges for 1 day late. My question is are they doing this because of the ruling on no bank charge reclaiming it seems very high for a first time offender and I normally find them quite helpful. Any suggestions they would not let us speak to our branch would it help to pop in and see them.
Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.

This sounds serious to me, but I am not an expert, you need to find out about this, to me it certainly sounds way excessive, I wonder if someone like edinburghlass might know?
  • THis is a first time post for me and wondererd iuf anyone had any advice. I am in a battle with Egg credit cards at the moment. They say that I owe almost £7000 on the card. But I don't. the card was for £4000 and I actually owe £3700. They have passed it to a debt collecting service and if I pay in 7 days then I pay the actual amount owed without interest. However, I don't keep thousand of pounds under my bed (!!!) and so can't pay. So, the logcal thing to do it then....I have to pay in installments of 10% pm on the whole lot including interest charges!!! I am filling in an income expenditure form but to say I will pay whatever I can £50pm say. I already feel they won't accept this and they will take it to court where the court will say I have to pay the lot ( they always do the courts!!!!). I will pay the £3700 but am refusing to pay the whole other interest. Why should I? I've been trelling Egg for years that I can't afford what they want me to pay.and have been asking them to stop the account incurring interest. ( I havent even used the card in 4 years!!!). they refuse to stop the interest occusring saying I haven't made a payment but the won't accept the cheques I write and won't letn me set up a DD or standing order. I feel I am being bullied by Egg and their debt collectors and they have also threatened to arrest my bank acoount. How can I only pay what I acrtually owe and not the rest of the interest which I have not used ?????? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Thanks for your advise - I shall try and have the fee waivered and any possible court costs if any.

I received a partial offer from HBOS in a letter dated 24th July, giving me two months to accept in full and final settlement. (Money went into my account on 31st July) I decided to wait until the two months were nearly up before I replied as I wanted to wait and see if there were any further developments. Unfortunately, I then became rather busy with personal problems, and forgot about it! I remembered today, and of course I am now a month over the two month deadline. Am I too late, and if not, can I accept it as partial payment without prejudice, even though they said it would be in full and final settlement? Any advice would be very welcome.
    Thanks.

I would certainly send the letter accepting in part payment and see what they say as this will keep the "door open" to continue your claim after the test case.

Not sure I understand your post where you say you haven't used the card for 4 years and having spent £3700 on the card, made no payments but can't see why you would have to pay them interest? You cannot borrow money and not expect to pay interest which will of course have increased with charges over the years.

I suggest you go to CAB as a matter of urgency and ask to speak to someone there as this is not strictly a charges question but a debt problem especially as a DCA is involved.
  • Hi there i am in panic mode now and have been reading all your threads about your court experiences. Mine is on Monday at 10am and to put it midly i am honestly terrified. I am claiming $750 (sorry pound key doesnt work!) from bank of scotland they paid out the first claim no problem but now have requested a stay. As i have been reading your threads many of you have withdrawn your claim when at court so is there really any point of me turning up? I honestly dont want to go and if the outcome is just to withdraw my claim then perhaps i shouldnt put myself through the torture or am i just being a complete sissy confused-smiley-013.gif? I have also read that in Scotland it is slightly different as the OFT is reviewing an English bank is this correct?

I don't think anyone has withdrawn their claim, are you mixing up with some people saying when the judge asks if you want to proceed with the "application to remove the stay" answering this with a no, is not withdrawing your claim, only the application precisely. have you looked at all the info on the CAG site as well, some of us have spare bundles which you can willingly have? IF yours is an application to remove stay?
