Does anyone know what the best and easiest account would be for me to open? I just want to go for a basic account so no credit scores are relied upon. Just need an account for DD's and my salary to be paid into.

I think you asked that question before and you did get some suggestions. Did you follow up on them?

As a by-the-by, all current accounts will undergo some sort of a credit scoring / risk assessment. But given from what you say you were told off the record, you won't have a problem with any credit scoring, so it's just a matter of getting yourself that other account. Not sure how you survived without one for weeks, tbh.

It's a funny 1 because I have a couple of active defaults on my file yet my score is 961. Having said this I can get no form of credit at all. Can't get a mobile phone or anything.

I'll try the Co-Op cash minder, going to wait for the CIFAS SAR response first though and if clear I'll apply. I have until 20th May to get a new bank account and if it over runs a few days I can have salary paid into my partners account as a one off.

CRA scores are meaningless, regardless of what CRAs are trying to make you believe. Banks/BSs don't even look at the CRA scores.

A couple of active defaults is, unfortunately, rather bad news when you want a new current account. Good luck.
  • Just as a quick aside in relation to your point about CRAs' credit-scores.

I have no derogatory information, all accounts up-to-date and also no problem in getting credit. I own my own home, have a BTL property, credit cards with zero balances etc...Experian have my "score" as 419 - "very poor".

It's simply a load of nonsense. I know it's been said before but these CRAs have no idea of salary, employment length/type, home ownership, dependents etc etc.

Not that relevant to you, so sorry for the rant.

I doubt very much that any lender will score you in the -900s with even a single default, nevermind 2.

Ok, would I be able to get a Co-Op cash minder account in your opinion? I know these types of account are designed for people with poor credit history etc.

What account did you have with Natwest?

It maybe the CRA feeds as been the reason for the account closure.

If you have defaults etc on your credit files.

I have even taking my brain and think I may have figured this all out....

I opened my Gold Current account in 2009 and had the same issue on my credit file at the time but had had no previous searches for about a year. I wasn't using any of the 'benefits' of my account and paying £12.95 a month for the privilege so on 6th Feb this year I went into branch and changed my account to a Select Account which had no monthly charge. Then on 25th Feb my accounts were places on hold and I had no access to them until 19th March whilst they did 'a review' and then I received the letter saying they are closing them. After what the manager told me off the record I'm putting 2+2 together and thinking maybe whilst under review they also reviews my credit file and though "actually, we don't want this persons custom".

I may be wrong but it all seems a little coincidental to me.

Have you used this account before? Is it regulated etc? I'll have to do my research.
