Try some other Building Societies. I think Yorkshire BS have a cashcard account that gives you a debit card and allows DDs.

I've not committed fraud nor laundered any money and guess if the bank had thought I had they wouldn't have released my accounts back to me to use.

I have no idea why they have released your account but they clearly object to something(s) that happened on your account. It's a bit (!) infuriating they don't have to tell you but you are the only person who can possibly find out / know what the potentially offending transactions are.

As you may never get to the bottom of it, you might as well funnel all your energy towards getting on your feet again with a different account, like the YBS one for starters.

Yes that's what I'll do. I honestly have no idea why they've closed it which is all the more frustrating!!

Will the other banks be privy to information as to why my account was closed or even that they have been closed, just wondering if it will affect my opening another account.

    You can try:
    Santander
    HSBC
    Barclays
    Co-op
    Yorkshire bank
Lloyds banking group - Halifax, LloydsTSB

I don't know where you are in the country but these are the standard English banks.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Do you mean Yorkshire bank or Yorkshire Building Society? I was thinking about the latter and their Cash Transactor account

Right ok, so I've just sent of the SAR forms to CIFAS to see if there is any info held there on my file. I will await the return of that and then I am going to apply for a Co-Op Cashminder account.

Is there anything else I need to do? I have checked my credit file and there is nothing on the CIFAS page but I realise that the only info that goes here is if you have been a victim of identity fraud which I haven't hence there being no entries.

Does anyone have any further ideas to help me out in the meantime. By my calculations, my account with Natwest will be closed on 20 May so I have a few weeks to sort things I suppose.

In the meantime a building society savings account might be useful.

  • I have had a lovely letter off NatWest today saying they are reducing my overdraft by £300 on 9th May. Upon speaking to them, I was told it was because I'm earning enough money to pay it back! I have never gone overdrawn, or badly managed the account in the 7 years I have had it. I am completely confused by their actions. I wanted to pay my overdraft off anyway, but £300 in one month?

Well they all have the right to withdraw a o/d.
I take it that you must live in the overdraft, even if you never go past the limit.

Clearly they feel that something is not right with the way your account is run and have decided that they can no longer offer you a account.
I seem to remember from the last thread that you had previous credit issues.
