Email from police - apparently I bought stolen goods on eBay

Had an email from Gwent Police today telling me that an item I bought a year ago was in fact stolen. They're not going to prosecute me as they are " happy that purchases have been made in good faith" but there's a form for me to fill in and send back so they can use it as evidence against the perp and (who has been arrested) and "to prevent any formal action".
Gotta say this has shaken me up a bit - its not every day you get an email like that. I'm just glad they don't want me to hand the goods back!
Think I'm finally done with eBay, I can hear that nail being hammered into its coffin even as I type.

Surely it depends what you buy? Designer handbags along with laptops, smartphones etc... are often stolen to order.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I think you need to clarify with the "police" the email you were sent to make sure it is real and someone is not pulling the wool over your eyes.0

Indeed I would ring up the police force concerned and actually ask them to confirm this is legitimate. There must be a reference number and an officers name / extension on the email right?
Hopefully it is a genuine email but it could be a scam / phishing email.0 -
Dont use contact numbers for the email. Ask at your local station.
Do you know hot to check email headers?
Its easy to send an email from anyone. Sending people emails from themselves can be funny though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yes the thought did occur to me that it may be a scam of some sort. Will be checking it out thoroughly before replying.£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

The form you fill in, what information is it asking for ...be very wary about any personal info it asks for0
-
I'm a police officer in the MET never heard of a detection being handled via email. Be wary.0
