Cancel contract and send box back.
Time is running out, I am guessing you did not take my advice and send the cancellation notice.

thanks for info because tt have passed me round to lots of different people and apparently they dont have a complaints department my case has been passed to the chief exeuctive and he will be contacting me within 5 working days ,i have informed them that i have 7 days from my go live date which was monday 8th0 -
I suggest you pay up for a proper rooftop aerial, because that's going to cost you less than paying the sub for 18m a YouView box that you can't otherwise use. Your onl other option is to sell the box on to recoup some of the cost.
You aerial is not TT's responsibility, it's up to you to have the proper equipment to receive an adequate digital signal, which usually requires a rooftop aerial. How have they 'misled' you?
tt told me before i placed the order that my aerial in lounge in the wall was all i needed to view the box i told her that i didnt have aerial on roof that it was in my loft so if that was the case then she should have said i needed a aerial on roof to which i wouldnt have gone ahead with order knowing i could have gone with sky or anyone else who dont need a aerial so i disagree with u it is there responsibility to check this before , and as regard to the sub fee if i cancelled my package which is phone broadband and tv they quoted me 450 which is not quite correct , there web site states 15.50 per month your still in contract so that doesnt amount to 450 and how can they inforce this charge i will just refuse to pay it if it comes to this0 -
But depending on your area and signal strength, you could get away with a loft aerial or even less. I can get a signal with a loft aerial. My brother in the same area can get a signal with a smaller 'amplified' aerial from Argos.
TalkTalk are there to sell their services, I don't think they can be held responsible for your installation. It may be reasonably presumed that if you have a loft aerial, you've got it because you have it to receive TV signals already.
Agree or disagree - i maintain that there is some responsibility on the purchaser to understand what you need to receive what is basically Freeview - digital TV and the associated advertising telling us that aerial upgrades may be needed has been around for some time to be fair.
As above, if you can't use it, return it while you can, or sell it on ebay?0 -
This is daft. If you can't afford to pay £100 for a proper aerial, how could you have afforded Sky TV at a minimum of £270 per year? TT do not have a clue about your aerial system, and care less, it's up to you to provide a working aerial to feed the YouView box with an adequate Freeview signal.
I would suggest that you cancel and return the box under the 7 day rule while you still have time, as your complaint is going to get you precisely nowhere.
Your quoted price of £15.50 pm does not include line rental; that adds £14.95 per month, making £30.45 per month-as is made quite clear on the home page. And it's an 18 month contract, not 12 months.

It should be possible to cancel the TV component of your contract under the cooling-off provision and just have the line rental, calls and broadband service, if that is what you want. You have I think 4 days left to cancel and return. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Hilarious. How wrong can you be? I've made dozens of posts on here stating that I wouldn't touch TT with a long bargepole. But it's not their fault if you fail to do the basic research before contracting a TV package.
Whatever result your complaint produces will not alter the fact that this box apparently won't work in your area without a rooftop aerial. And TT are not going to come and fit one for you. So if you complaint fails (as it will), then you will still be in contract if you haven't cancelled in time. Cancelling your DD will simply result in a trashed credit file for the next 6 years. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The point is that the box requires a working aerial feed. This does not necessarily require the aerial to be on the roof as although the roof is generally the best place to get a good signal it can be good enough inside, typically in the loft.
The OP has said that the upstairs TVs work fine from the loft aerial, so this would tend to suggest that the aerial is fine. Suspicion must fall on whether the aerial and the socket in the lounge are connected or not.0 -
Possibly. Different tuners have different sensitivities. It may simply be that the YouView box requires a slightly stronger signal to operate.
Your theory is easily tested simply by moving the upstairs TV downstairs and trying it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Another very easy check is to see if your free-view works with an internal aerial.
If it does then try the talk-talk box with the same aeriel pointing in the same direction.0 -

just thought id post and let you no today i received a call from the chief exeuctive who told me that i should have been told when ordering the box that i would need a roof top aerial so he is allowing me to send the box back and no charge will be incurred by me so just goes to show if you think something isnt right and you think positivly you will get a good result !!!!!!!! regards0
