YouView is a free terrestrial service, no need to pay anything for it.....Apart from the box.
They are available at popular prices at Richer Sounds.

But they are going with BT, which gets them BT vision which is a chargeable extra, the £5 extra give you access to the BT vision services, but you pay for each show you watch, the same as if you go with talk talk, you get talk talk tv, which they charge extra for.
The base package from YouView is free, ie freeview and the catchup services, but the premium content provided by the 3rd parties if you get a box from talk talk / BT etc usually costs extra, or is built in to the package you buy.
When you just get the box from a retailer, you only get the freeview and catchup services.0 -

I see, that seems strange to me, to pay for a service which then charges me to watch programmes?0 -
The question is , do you want the paid for stuff fromBT?.
You can still get paid for services from Now TV if you buy your box. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I've looked at nowtv but £9.99 for 1 days sky sports pass is a bit expensive.
We're moving to a new place so looking at various package options for phone and broadband also looking at the possibility of adding tv to it as well if the price is right.0 -

Hi,
You could look at it like this, for your money you will get a top quality 500GB Freeview HD pvr and free access to over twenty thousand free programmes that are available via (internet) On Demand.
If you go retail, you'll be looking at £230 - £250.
If you go through BT, you'll be looking at a £49 activation fee plus £5 a month for twelve months = £109. And at the end of that twelve months the box will be yours to keep, to take where you will.0 -
However you will also be tied into BT's overpriced and poor quality broadband product. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

People would rather pay £200/300 or even worse "rent" a Youview box, when all you really have to do is go to PoundWorld and buy a HDMI cable, connect it to your laptop and tv then you can get all the I-players including Utube for nowt.0

This is what I don't get about you view.
As far as I can see, I'm either paying up front for a box or paying a subscription for a service that I can get free exactly how you describe above.0
