So now its revealed that a female is involved, did wonder if that was going to be the case. Good luck getting the money form the family member OP.

This woman is in fact my girlfriend of 5 months.

Would I be right in assuming your girlfriend is actually a Nigerian princess?
  • What are you talking about? I'm not a waster. I have been relatively successfully self-employed for over 5 years. My outgoings have been small because, well, there was just me. I don't drink alcohol. I don't smoke. I'm the healthiest person you'll never meet. I live at home because it's easier for me and up until this point I've had no reason to change that.

If you had been successfully self employed for 5 years, living at home with low rent or even none at all and small out goings why dont you have any savings?

And he needs the money to finally meet her?

Yes. Clothes mainly. But that was simply because I did not ever envisage not being able to pay it back.

I suspect Mansard never envisaged not having money coming in, so couldn't foresee any need for savings....

We all make mistakes, but I do not understand how he can have what I assume was a good income low out goings and get himself stuck in this situation.

I'm no star I've got debt from getting a bit trigger happy with credit and store cards but I've never got myself into such a bad situation as to desperately need £5k for some personal problem.

The OP needs to share the reason for the loan as we MSE'rs may have an alternative solution.
  • I wondered if the OP was a troll but I think even a Troll would have entertained us with an extravagant story of lust and desire.
