We don't have to pay for reservations at our library. It's great and we use it loads.0

We don't pay for reservations if we do it online or on the library computer but if we ask a member of staff to reserve something they charge a fee.
Also have the ability to renew books online, have saved myself needless fines by being able to do that!
My library even bought in a book specially once, I requested it, they emailed to say it wasn't in the stock of this county's libraries, and they were requesting it from surrounding counties. About a month later they emailed again to say they had sourced it and I could call in to pick it up. When I did, the librarian told me that they couldn't locate in in any other libraries and so they had bought it in due to the demand for it. I asked how many other people had requested it and she said, just you! I made sure that I didn't return that one late! :rotfl:
I like my library!0 -
My dog chewed a book when she was a pup, told the library and had to pay the rrp £16.99, later on saw it in "The Works" for £4 ...blimmin dog.....0

A few years ago I had a letter from my local library saying their records showed I still had a book i'd borrowed a few years before, but they were willing to wipe the charges if i took in a donation of some tins of food:p0

DS has some books on loan from our local library which were approx 3 weeks overdue so I went online to renew them till our next visit
Turns out 3 of the books are classed as adult fiction (DS is 10) and he has been charged £20 in overdue fines
The titles are Spider-Man and Star Wars related which are comic book style but when he came to me with them I assumed cos they were in the children's section they were children's books - it appears not
I called and spoke to a helpful lady who explained that the fees were charged on the book and not the library card holder but if I saw the staff at the help desk they could sort something out when I explained DS is only 10 - we havent been in yet but really hoping they waive the charges
Either way will think twice before letting the kids get books out again0 -
Presumably for a food bank, rather than because of impoverished librarians :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

£20!! from the most of the posts here, it seems you might be better off to just keep the books for a couple of years and wait for the fines to be wipes.:cool:0 -

Lol! Yes I was a bit surprised tbh, DS will want to use the library again though and don't want to discourage him reading but am unlikely to pay the fines straight away though assume I am liable0 -
I haven't been able to use the library since the local library was closed down to help fund a new one at the council offices. It's too far to walk (limited mobility), it seems impossible to get there by bus and I don't drive.
There was a temporary mobile library one afternoon a week, but it was during working hours so no good for me.
I miss it.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
