I'd play the innocent! And either they may have forgotten about the books or they won't recognise the name when you sign up for a new one.

On the library note.. One thing that really gets my goat is having to pay to reserve a book. I know it's only ten pence or whatever but if you are doing some research on looking for something specific it adds up. Why is this?!

  • I work in a library and this happens a lot. Items are written off after a while but there will be a note on the system and the account will be frozen. Usually with lost items we say replace it like for like and we often waive fines if someone has been ill and couldnt get to the library or contact us.

Reservations have a charge because books have to be transported from library to library for this although my authority have a sliding scale depending on whether you are on benefits, retired etc.

We have free newspapers, magazines and internet but I can see the papers being stopped and charges for the internet soon. 4 libraries have been closed and the rest have had the hours cut and there is talk of 10 libraries being shut next year which will have a huge impact on the city:eek:
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

Well, I phoned my library just now, they had no record of me at all and there was a 10.99 replacement book charge on DD1's card. So today we will be off to the library to pay that and re register me and the older girls (and join up my toddlers!) :j :j

My bigger ones are out today and will be very happy when they get home :D

  • I can access my library account online, how about seeing if you can register so you can see what it says

I've done this before :-/ I was always too scared to go near the library lol. I got a new account when I got married but I have learned my lesson and always take good care of my books now :-)

Meanwhile ours is getting a massive refurb - don't know what accounting our county council's doing but they seem to have mastered pulling money from their backsides since they've managed to not close libraries (they have cut staff unfortunately and installed mountains of self-checkout machines to do so) or children's centres which is rather impressive.

As a consequence of our library being in a temp home for the next 7 months - no library fines as it's less accessible to a lot of people so they're expecting people to have more loans going overdue!

Our library is being completely redone as well... At the cost of millions! It does look lovely though now and the children's library (previously a grey corner) is lovely.
