I don't think you need an interview normally.

the only trouble with that is, you have to phone them up to open it which could get expensive on the 0845 etc.

Thanks both for taking the time to answer.

Although I'm not against financial institutions requesting further ID, it is a hassle.

Check your application form, just above your name and address, should say CUSTOMER ID NOT REQUIRED/REQUIRED.
I got the page with all manner of expectations of ID......from someone whom hasn't had paper bills or bank statements for over 5 years!
so I called to check & they said the acceptable iD page will always display at end of your application regardless of whether you need to provide or not!
I did enter a nominated account etc, so maybe they can check your ID using this.....

Thank SO much for pointing that out!!

The sending docs off was putting me off opening an account but I decided to fill in the form (after reading here you can OPEN various ISA's as long as you dont pay new money in) and have just printed out the form and sure enough, "NI ID REQUIRED".

Very pleased to have finally made an ISA choice :rotfl:
  • Anyone who's applied have you heard anything back yet? Applied last week but heard nothing back, unlike the Cheshire BS, sent my stuff in on Monday had a text and email at 5am the next day to confirm that my application was being processed.

Yes they have been very quick with mine.Applied last week and got a form back Tuesday.Sent it back same day with cheque which showed as cleared today in my bank. However i already have other accounts with them but i don't think that made a difference.

Applied for one for hubby on Monday, received form yesterday and sent cheque back straight away.

Applied over the phone last Thursday, received application to sign on Saturday. Returned with cheque on Monday, letter of confirmation of account opening received today.
    Job done. :)
  • With coventry applications its always best to sign the forms, send them off WITH ID. Best to use a copy of passport and driving licence to be sure.
Although it doesnt mention it on the app forms, if you just put a little note to say you'll make a bank transfer thats fine.
The 8 digit number on the form is an app number, not an account number.
  • Also. The coventry performs electronic checks when you apply online, whether you pass these or not will determine whether you need ID.
