OOO I hear you on the diet coke. My weakness is pepsi max and diet irn bru
Unfortunately, or should I say thankfully, the irn bru now gives me horrible tummy cramps so I can't drink it any more. Trying to cut down on the other has made me a grumpy sea hag! I never used to drink fizzy juice either. I have no idea what made me start?!
I've subscribed and am looking forward to following your journey to buy the other half of your home! Exciting stuff0 -
I remember giving up diet coke, I had massive headaches, but it did ease after a few days. 8 years later and I won't touch the stuff!
Chocolate. Well that's another matter. X0 -
Thanks guys - been asleep all evening so haven't updated. On the upside I have also had a NSD and still off the diet coke and choc (might treat myself to a choc bar at weekend
)
Sooooo..... the other night when I was sleepless I did a noddle credit report (free - how cool is that!) and opened a new bank account. Then I got a bit confident and applied for a new credit card. Well the screen went blank at the decision stage and said try later - I went to sleep at that point and thought oh well.... then got a text today saying my new card woud be with me in a week with an £8000 limit and is 0% for 3 years.
Hopefully this time next week now approx £11,000. of my high interest debt will be at 0%. Bring on DFD July 2015.
Chuffed!!! :money::j0 -
Fab news
Make sure you cut up the old cards/close the accounts of the ones you transfer0 -
Thanks HI
2 of the accounts I will be closing are closed anyway but I do need to be careful to not rack up any more debt. Am thinking of saving towards an emergency fund so I dont "need" a credit card. Hopefully having lots on 0% will help me reduce the debt faster and therefore stay motivated... plus the valuable help from you guys and the forum :beer:0 -
I did it 3 times
Got rid, went higher the next time .. and again .. and again0 -
Yay, that's great! Not having to pay interest is always a bonus. You'll really feel like you're making a dent in it now.0

:wave:Hello
I shall subscribe, love a good new diary (I'm not technically a DFW but I hang out on here as this is where most of the best MSE tips come from).
Well done on transferring your debt- assuming that doesn't prompt you to rack up more now it's not costing you as much. Have you put this new rate into the snowball calculator? It would be interesting to see what a difference this makes to you DFD.
Also, good luck on the diet coke. That stuff is soooooo bad for you with so much addictive stuff in it there's no wonder it's hard to give up. My old boss used to go through 6+ cans a day. He was a migraine sufferer and the sweeteners made those worse so he would use it to wash down co-codamol but couldn't give it up as the withdrawal was even worse still! All that from simple fizzy drink :eek: Plus, I hear that drinking diet drinks actually makes you eat more, therefore making you fatter :eek::eek:
Anyway, mega post to introduce myself, sorry

Thanks HI, TDmum and Katzen,
Your listening to my ramblings is helping :T
Katzen - so right about the diet drinks. Ive managed since monday now and only because I'm on the weekly spend challenge. Makes me realise how much I spend on day to day living.
So todays dramas... where to begin!!!
I have managed to move money across to 0% (bit more to go) and this is very positive - I just have to be really careful to make sure all my repayments arent messed up so guess daily banking checks for the next few weeks are necessary.
Also I filled up the car with petrol today - am going to keep an eye on how much it costs me to drive to work and back - I may be convinced to switch to public transport if its too expensive..... :eek:0 -
Well its been nearly 2 weeks since my LBM and I feel like I'm making some progress. I have also been having a rubbish time at work this year and put loads of weight on but bit by bit I think its coming together - and the sun is shining
I'm still battling around bank accounts as I was trying to streamline but then opened another one - doh!
New one however has a free ovrdraft for a year so I will use that to close my other account (plus £70 quidco, plus losing santander will be no loss at all!).
I'm also hoping that 2 of the credit cards I'm clearing may offer me a balance transfer deal in future so will keep them open but will definately not spend on them. I have racked up more debt in the past like that but tbh I'm getting old(er) and feel I'm not living so the debt has to just go!!
And if you are reading then thank you and have a great weekend xx :beer:0
