So there is my motivation!
Hi all, I've been here before but 2 years on am in the same amount of debt. I feel like im wishing my life away servicing my debt and its just not going anywhere.
So things must change. Im 40 next year and living in a shared ownership property with my son. I'd love to buy the rest but am currently sitting on almost £23,000 of debt.
Most of this is debt is on credit cards with high APRS and I'm unable to get cheaper credit. I feel like im not living - just waiting for the next payday. However the plus side is I earn a good income and am not at crisis point. Ive missed a few payments but this has been due to pure bad planning and juggling 3 current accounts.
Today Ive shifted most payments to one account - the second account will be my spending account and the third - well Im paying that overdraft off first and then closing it down.
Im hoping this diary will keep me sane and on track!
Its 23/5/13 - almost 2 months in and adding some short and longer term goals to focus me:
Goal 1: Live on £800 per month - June
Goal 2: Live on £800 per month - July
Goal 3: Live on £800 per month - August
Goal 4: Debt sub £20,000 by 7/9/13
Goal 5: Live on £800 per month - September
Goal 6: Live on £800 per month - October
Goal 7: Live on £800 per month - November
Goal 8: Live on £800 per month - December
Goal 9: Debt sub £15,000 by 31/12/13
Goal 10: Earn additional £3500 this year

So I got a ceramic savings pot for mothers day. Its quite pretty and will be a shame to smash open. So Im making the most of it and only filling with £2 coins. Apparently it can hold £1000 if used this way!!!
New rule is everytime I come home with £2 coins in my purse they go in the jar. Every little helps

Ive just joined up to the 1% challenge. In reality this will come from my overpaymens but it will be good to see 100 little squares being coloured in as my debt disappears sloooowly.
Im going to stop overpaying my mortgage and put this towards my debts. Its *only* £50 per month but thats £600 per year or more than 2% of my debt per year so it has to happen.
Currently I am paying most credit cards by standing order.
So tomorrow I will set up minimum direct debits for all credit cards (except for the one in my brothers name which needs paying off) leaving me free to snowball the biggest debt.
Now I just need to find a spending app......0 -
Damn - put £10 on my oyster card and got £10 back in £2 coins... oh well in the box they go!
I have found a spending app - and moved another dd over to my newly designated bills account. Its making me aware how much money Im wasting on daily food (choc!) . I really need to sort out my mind and get on a diet!0
