More opinions wanted on dog walking.

I had some great information from my previous thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4475857

Now I'm focussing on poop for my Uni project on innovation. I need to find a subject that I can invent a product or improve something that already exists.

My initial project area was "dog walking aids" but it was a bit broad, so I'm going to be looking at poo instead. So what annoys you about dog poo picking? I don't think I can find a solution to other peoples poop being left (unless I make it so easy to pick up that you'll pick them all up!!) so this is mostly your own experience of picking up doodies.
  • Are you annoyed by poo-bags breaking?
  • Bags not big enough?
  • Nowhere to hold the bag?
  • No way to clean poop off your fingers when it goes wrong?
  • Can't control the dog(s) whilst picking up?
  • End up getting messy with squidgy ones?

My experience is that I once tied the bag to the lead after it broke and it swung around creating a catherine wheel of crap!

So any comments on poop? What annoys you?

Also has anyone used one of those DickyBags and got a review? Anyone used a pooper-scooper of any kind and got a review? Any other points?
Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!

I'll tell you what annoys me.
A neighbour who doesn't think she has to clear up her dogs poo because 'we are in the country'. If I am lucky she kicks it to the side if it does it in the lane. That said I am still likely to step in it while clearing up the poo from my own dog. Plus my dog unfortunately has a habit of scoffing other dogs poo. She has a health condition and it isn't good for her. So I have to be constantly on the look out.
Anyway - budget nappysacks from the main supermarkets make perfect poo bags. You can also get a product which reckons to 'freeze' poo for easy picking. But it doesn't work for me.
The neighbour with the offending dog burns the little dog poo she does pick up in her multifuel stove. Heaven knows what her chimney is like :(

Nothing annoys me about picking up my dog's poo, it's part of owning a dog! I use supermarket value nappy bags and they are perfectly fine.

What does annoy me is those dog owners who do not pick up after their own dogs. I take mine to our local park every day, and the amount of dog poo on the grass/path is unbelievable. There's no excuse for it!!!

Runny dog poo can be difficult to pick up as you don't want to put your fingers through the bag doing too much scraping!

I usually find some soil to sprinkle on it to
make it easier to collect up, or if it is in my own garden I use sawdust.

Not enough poo bins around so I have to carry it for ages or take it home. I carry the bag rather than tie it to anything (feels more secure and there's no way it's going in a pocket!) which is fine until pooch got reactive and I needed both hands to control her. So either more bins, or a third hand should do the trick.
Never bothered with poop scoops although i was bought several - it's easy to stick a couple of bags into a jeans pocket, anything bigger isn't worth the effort.
However from my mother's perspective, she doesn't want to carry anything bulky but hates picking up just using a bag as she dislikes the warmth from a freshly dropped pile.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I have no problems with "picking up". I use nappy sacks and have never had one break or leak. The size is just right for my medium-sized breed, though I wouldn't have thought them substantial enough when I had a Lab. Luckily my walks have plenty of bins, but there are some on the canal bank that are not emptied often enough -yuck!

I wouldn't bother with a pooper-scoop or those little gadgets that hold poo bags - walking 2 dogs and often carrying a ball and thrower is enough.

Hate those who don't pick up. Especially annoying when you see a huge pile of !!!! right next to a dog bin!

My best bit of kit is the lead extension that means I can walk 2 dogs on one lead, though I usually carry a spare lead "just in case".

There is a movement going on at the moment to promote yellow ribbons on leads for dogs that need their space. As far as I know, no-one is actually producing specific yellow leads - that might fit the original project remit of walking aids?

    Dickie Bags.... overpriced, twee, tat.
No dog, not used one .... but it's all "lifestyle/aspirational" tat really isn't it.

The thing that REALLY annoys me......and also confuses me. Those people who pick up their dog's poo in bags...........and then drop the bags or throw them over walls etc!

To drop a nappy bag with dog poo in it....is surely even worse than just leaving the poo on the ground?

I too get fed up with the lack of poo bins, well bins in general, on some of my regular walks. There's one heritage walkway with regular stop spots with benches and tourist info etc and I regularly walk the whole 7 miles and there is not a single bin of any description on the whole walkway. What was a very nice walk when first done is now a minefield of litter and dog poo.

I can only think of one nice walk in the area with regular bin that are also emptied the rest are few and far between.

I do sometimes find it awkward to carry filled poo bags when both my large dogs have been before I can find a bin, controlling two dogs and two full poo bags is not so easy when one has dog aggression and needs two hands to hold him around other dogs and a free hand to get his muzzle on. I manage but only just.

Somebody brought out something similar to a dicky bag a few years ago, loads were donated to rescue auctions, I never used one but design wise they folded flat, had wipe clean lining, could attach to a belt or lead, had a top zip for putting poo in and a bottom zip for emptying. They came in different designs and sizes and had a mesh pocket to hold empty poo bags and would fit a mini hand sanitizer in too for any accidents. I wish I got one when I had the chance but I can't seem to find them in any search.

Yes, it s a yucky job but I do it. The bit I don't like is lack of enough bins to put it in. I hate walking and carrying a swinging bag of !!!!.
I still won't stoop to hanging it from tree branches they way lots of folk seem to though! I would like. Detector device to make sure I am picking my own dogs poo up, not someone else's.nothing worst than grabbing a stone cold one and knowing you got it wrong!

Or... a yellow poo/bag holder that attaches to the lead or dog? Combine two ideas in one!
