Just to in case anyone was interested but the release date for The Order of The Phoenix movie has been put forward by one day in the UK... amazingly we get to see the film before the Americans, who still have to wait until the previous release date!!0

I've got free postage with it because I needed to order something else that took it over £15. The extra item I ordered came straight away and the book will be with me on the morning of release. Last time, I joked with the postman about dressing up as an owl, this time I'll suggest he carries a broomstick and cape!
So, if you haven't ordered The Money Diet and Thrifty Ways, good thing to double up with!

Do they lay on extra posties or something as I can't imagine my little post lady cycling 200+ books around the village.......Illegitimi non carborundum.0 -
Ordered it today from Amazon - simply because no-doubt I'll want another book by then anyway, and the gift vouchers are an added bonus

Following on from what people have been saying about the Independent Bookshops, this one in Lower Marsh, London, are offering the following deal:So, here's the deal.
The last Harry Potter book is £17.99. WaterstonesTescoAmazonAsda are selling it for £8.99 or thereabouts - pretty much what they pay the publisher.
Here's our offer...
Buy HP7 from us at £17.99, we'll pay the publisher and then give £9 to the primary school at the end of Lower Marsh to spend on books for their library.
I should add that my cousin is the co-proprietor, but I think it's a really good "alternative", although not technically MSE...0 -
It's bargain hunts like this that put small booksellers, and eventually publishers, out of business. Please don't buy books from supermakets! It's good in the short term for your pocket - but when all the independant book shops dissapear and the only books on shelves are mass market dross because that's all publishers can afford to produce - people might start regretting it.
Not our problem linzibean. We are here to save money, not to save the highstreet.0 -
I don't have any details of a specific offer, but I just wanted to say i've ordered HP books from Tesco and Amazon before and they have both arrived on the day of release (though mine probably won't now i've said that
).
I've gone for Amazon this time, but might cancel once I find out what shifts i'm doing and if I can get to a bookstore for midnight. I just worry that someone in the shop will flip to the back of the book and say 'Oooh Harry dies' or something in a really loud voice and spoil it.0 -

I agree with linzibean. There is a fine line between saving money and saving the retailers. Many book shops will have this on offer, you don't need to go to a supermarket to buy it. Borders will have it for £8.99. Thats half price and you can order in advance at https://www.borders.co.uk . The site is ran by Amazon, but Borders get some of the money.
We need to have choice in what we buy. If there are only supermarkets left, where are you going to get other books that are not in the top 10?0 -

Alan Sugar wouldn't approve
Buyers could buy it from somewhere else at £8.99 and gift aid the £9 to the school which would add tax to the donation.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

Not strictly true as everything we do has a cause and effect. If our pursuit of the lowest price in every circumstance results in a lack of competition or poor service then for many of us that would be seen as a problem.
you only have to look at the vent board to see this.
