IPHONE Update broke my phone - what to do?
Options
Hi there,
I recently updated my iphone 4s to the latest IOS software 6.1.3 and once it updated and restarted itself my iphones wifi broke. It is completely greyed out when I try to switch it on, having looked into it a bit it seems that this has happened to alot of people and is a fault apple are aware of (I believe the update can 'fry' the wifi antenna in some cases?) Anyway the long and short is my wifi wont work, iv done everything apple have suggested by restarting the phone, completely wiping it and starting it as a 'new phone' yet it still does not work.
In the meantime all my 3g data was used up and my smartphone is no longer all that smart as I cant access the internet and I need to, I cant use 3g constantly as data allowance wont allow. Ironically I was 10days out of Apples warranty and they said they wont fix or investigate it because I was out of warranty.
My question is where do I go from here? Can I argue with apple that their software update has caused the problem therefore they should fix? I have rung once and they said in theyre small print it would of said that they hold no responsibility if the update breaks the phone?!
Is it my network carriers problem? I am 1 yr into a 2yr contract with them and I did try asking them if it would be their responsibility (I thought the phone is no longer fit for purpose and would make my contract invalid as they should supply a phone worthy of lasting the full length of contract?) They told me that the contract is for the minutes/txts/data and not for the phone so its not their problem?
So in the meantime Im paying for a contract phone that does not work?
If anyone can help? Id appreciate it

If it can be proven that the fault isn't a result of damage, that it's the problem/responsibility of the company that supplied the phone: Consumer Rights Armour

So just to clarify - the company that supplied the phone would be......? Apple/O2?0 -
Apple is the manufacturer. It is a supplier as well if you buy a phone directly from Apple. If you've got the phone from O2 then the supplier is O2.0

From what you have said the phone is just over a year old? I thought the iPhone now come with a 2 year warranty?
Why not book a appt with a 'genius' in store and see what they say. Worth a go.0 -

No known issue - my 4S upgraded smoothly so there is no inherent issue. I updated over the air with no need of iTunes, but it makes sense to reload the firmware from a PC or Mac and do a restore.0

The update cant "fry" the wifi antenna, there is a known issue and its on their bug tracker.
A restore from within iTunes normally solves the issue. I believe Apple are still signing 6.1.2 so you could eeven try to restore that version rather than 6.1.30 -

No, Apple is not signing 6.1.2 anymore. But choosing "erase all content and settings" from the phone and then restore 6.1.3 from iTunes should help.
I believe he did update from the phone which is not very best idea, generally. Regardless what Apple tells.0 -
Did the whole erase and reload through iTunes and computer etc yet it still hasn't worked? I know it's not something that happens to everyone as my other half downloaded latest apple update and that worked all fine, but having looked into it I find I'm not the only one with this issue.
When you say there is a known issue and is on their bug tracker is it a case of waiting for them to make an update to solve the issue or is this just wishful thinking on my part?0
