Bank Charges case upheld

s30jok,
I've no idea who you think I am so I'm guessing you're barking up the wrong tree. Either way, I don't see this forum as a pseudo-popularity contest. Friends aren't always the best people for telling the truth.
I don't accept your argument that rising costs are the root cause of debt. Have a look at the Debtfree Wannabe section to see just what can be done when people put their minds to it. We're living in a "cash rich" society where materialistic dependency is driving people into the ground. If basic costs go up (which they have been for some time) then cut back elsewhere.
Blaming RPI/inflation/banks etc doesn't solve the problem - only YOU can do that.0 -
Paul Lewis is on Steve Wright and just mentioned about the case...he said it was going to appeal ('funded by someone' :j ) and he expected the bank to lose...
(I don't know who he is mind!)0 -
Does anybody else think as I do, that this bloke berwick who has lost his reclaiming case in court is a plant used by the banks to put up a poor case against them so they could win a case in court and frighten people off claiming and set a precedent for future cases, it seems strange to me that the case was won so easily when other banks have been scared to even go to court and the bank concerned did not even have to appear:0

Funkylala,
I use this site because I'm a strong supporter of PROACTIVE moneysaving. I took DH to the theatre last week using a link for discounted tickets - however, I didn't thump my fists at the box office on the way out demanding my money back. I saw the offer, read the headlines and the smallprint and went ahead with my purchase. We only paid £20 each and that included dinner. The person sat next to me saw exactly the same show with the same view of the stage but paid A LOT more for the privilege. I did the legwork so I got the discount. Banking is no different - take care of your account (ie. pay your bills on time and stay in credit) and the bank wont charge you. Play the game incorrectly and expect it to hurt.0 -
Out of interest, to all those who blame the judge, have you read the judgment? And if so, can I ask where you disagree with his reasoning?0

Tozer,
As much as I appreciate that you are a qualified professional, and you are giving free (but apparently not impartial) advise, i must say: I find most of your comments on this subject to be negative, provocative, and offensive. The tone of your posts are, at best aggressive and for the most part are off topic and irrelevant.
It would be useful if posts can be as constructive as possible and I write this keeping in mind that everyone is entitled to his/her opinion without being attacked and shot down in an offensive manner.
IMHO Tozer is in the minority when it comes to shooting down people. Moreover AFAICS he is not abusive of persons but writes as to principles. This is more than can be said of those who believe that the banks are always rogues and that anyone, who puts a case for them, must be in their employment. Some of their comments verge on the abusive in comparison. Why are you in this thread if you have such a high-and-mighty attitude? If you love bank charges so much, stay out of this thread.
Oh BTW I will save anyone the joy of abusing me for this post. My previous history is in my profile Yes I did work in a bank and for another notorious institution, but retired from the bank twenty odd years ago. I was aware that there some That I would trust and some I would not lend a shirt button to, and that assessment had no relation to well off or not. The difference with then and now is that everything is impersonal; the system is all. TBH (hopefully without 20-20 hindsight) I think many of us then could see how it was changing and did not like all we saw in the banking Brave New World
 even though we may differ in opinions0 -

I'm sure, you having 430+ posts on this site you must have seen other people's unfortunate circumstances yet you feel the necessity to evangelise over something you have never experienced yourself..as I said before...long may your happy state continue for I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for laughing hysterically at you as you fell off your soapbox if something similar happened to you....0 -
Good news. any more info?

You're right, I don't know your circumstances but you're sat on the internet at 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon so you clearly have enough money for a computer and internet connection. You've probably got Jeremy Kyle on in the background on your flat screen TV too.
Why not use your time to go and speak to every bank on the High Street. Find one that suits your circumstances rather than continuing to pay fines to the one you're with now. Consumer ACTION protects consumer rights, not distorting an open market through the threat of legal action.0
