  • Hi, We've just got our Border Collie pup and like you was advised to feed him hypoallergenic good quality dog food.
Apparently along WITH good training and a calm environment it does help to calm them. I researched all the big brand foods and lots of independents, also read reviews for HOURS!!!! Anyway it boiled down to Skinners or CSJK9. Went with CSJ command performance range, they also do hypoallergenic treats as well. Scout loves it, clears the bowl every time in minutes :-) Cost for adult Is around £32 for 15kg but £6.45 for delivery, same price if you order 2 bags though. Treats delivered free if spend over £10 they are also good value for money. They also have some local stockists if you look on their web page.
you can email for nutritional advice and they will send out free samples. https://www.csjk9.com

  • personally, i'd rather feed my dog with homemade hypoallergenic dog food so that i can make sure i'm not feeding him harmful ingredients.

    plus it's way cheaper too!
    ;)
  • Have you tried Super Premium Hypo Allergenic Food, available in various flavours and well priced compared with some of the major brands.

Must agree with some of the other comments, not sure how this would calm your dog down, more beneficial for pets with sensitive stomachs
  • I have a cockapoo pup that never settled on any dry food, always had runs, vet reccommended a wet food diet, was also advised to avoid grains. started with james wellbeloved sachets, she loved it but started to get expensive, now moved to naturediet and get it delivered for free works out at about 80p a tray.

It's made a huge difference to my mutt. No artificial rubbish or fillers, just pure food.

I'm looking to make my own version now as I can't afford to keep buying this long term, but as a learning stop-gap for me until I get to grips with raw feeding, it's been great and mutt loves it.

I've always believed commercial pet foods are not all they are cracked up to be and since taking mutt off them, there has been a noticeable difference in him.

Maybe worth considering OP at least?

Our springer is loopy regardless of what we feed him, but we did find the James Wellbeloved Duck & Rice for puppy made him super hyper lol

After repeat ear infections etc. the vet suggested we try a cereal free diet. He is now on either James Wellbeloved Turkey & Vegetable or Barking Heads Fusspot (salmon & sweet potato) - although he seems to like the Barking Heads one more but maybe because thats a bit more smelly.

He is still loopy though :)
  • I have a ten year old Irish Setter called Ruby and noticed that her coat was dry and she had flaky skin. We did use to feed her Eukanuba as that is what the breeder recommended but as things became tighter due to the recession we cut costs on everything and started to feed her Bakers. Her condition didn't improve and if anything she got worse so I began to research on the internet and came across horror stories about Bakers and found out she was probably allergic to wheat and that Bakers is full of additives. I started to Google wheat free dog food and found a local company called Heights Farm. I tried her on this for a few weeks and she improved. I don't think it is the cheapest available but after reading about what goes in to dog foods I feel better about her food now. Google Heights Farm Pet Foods if you want to see their website. I think they offer taster samples so you can try them out first.
  • I use mymaddog -I buy the Chicken hypo-allergenic food for our pup and he seems to get on really well with it! I think with postage it works out at £25 for 15KG.
