Who told you to try hypoallergenic dog food, a vet?0 -
Must say I'm a tad puzzled as to why a hypoallergenic food would calm a dog down.
As has been mentioned, what food is your dog currently on ?,as some commercial foods, due to their poor ingredients, can cause , so called hyperactive behaviour, Bakers Complete, being the prime example.
Some dogs can be sensitive to corn/ maize, corn gluten, prairie meal, (which is more or less the same thing) I would be looking for these ingredients first, if it is actually the food that's causing the behaviour.0 -
My dogs on Burns Potato and Pork Sensitive ++, I buy it from Petshopbowl, free and quick delivery.0

You could try Autarky Salmon and Rice - it seems to be about the cheapest decent hypo-allergenic food around.

The above is about the cheapest small bag with free delivery but Berriewood or GJ Titmuss are usually cheaper for the 15kg bags.0 -
Arden grange? Not too expensive either!
Try Berriewoods as they usually have free delivery 12kg is about £300 -
Skinners and Arden Grange would be two of the best. The companies are also very helpful in sending samples. Protein levels are quite low.
Is it a Springer? What is it currently fed and it's exercise regime?0 -
Not sure if it a hypoallergenic food will calm your dog down but I think that its best to feed it anyway. You can get some really decent dry dog food for cheap nowdays. May seem more expensive than the likes of supermarkets own makes or pedigree but you feed less. You see the likes of bakers pack their food full of cereals and crap and all kinds of colouring and other nasties that your dog doesn't need and may cause health issues. Since your dog doesn't need cereal in his diet he will just get rid of it via waste (poop haha). But you need to feed more to fill them up.
Think of it as the same as humans we are told to have correct portions of food like so much protein, veg and carbs. If we just ate carbs we be full for about 30mins and then be hungry again as we need protein in our diet to fill us up.
Skinners Duck and Rice and Autarky Salmon are you best bet. Email the companies asking for samples for free. Skinners are great btw. I'd defo ask for free samples as my partner bought his family dog Autarky Salmon and Rice and she didn't like it. So we got samples from Skinners Duck and Rice and she loves that but doesn't like the fish flavour from Skinners.
Buying in bulk is the cheapest as well.0 -
Springers are loopy dogs anyway.
I think you have to make sure you avoid foods with lots of artificial colours and flavourings.
My dogs get hypoallergenic food for their skin probs, Royal Canin usually - but hypo food for hyper dogs? If I were you Id go on a springer forum and see what other owners have tried and tested.0
