Money - I've learnt to skip over your posts because I find them long-winded, self-centred and constantly dragging attention onto your own issues without offering any constructive advice to the respective OP, but this......
I shall be going ahead when I planned to and doing a definite search for mine and putting in an offer (even if my buyer is still keeping ME waiting before they put in an offer or even do their 1st/2nd viewings) and just keeping my fingers crossed that I am "proceedable" at the time I make my offer - but have decided I cant go hanging around for my buyer if they still haven't shown by then)
    ....is just hilarious!
Once again you're blaming an as-yet non-existent buyer for ALL of the decisions that are entirely YOURS to make. Even to the point of getting angry that it's your buyer's fault for keeping you waiting because they haven't done a 1st viewing yet??!!

All these so-called "brownie points" won't make a blind bit of difference to a buyer. Why should they care when you put your house on the market? How exactly were you were being "unselfish" and "too fair" (?) by waiting until you got a buyer before looking for your new place? If you went ahead and found a place without having a buyer lined up for yours you'd be considered unproceedable anyway. So in fact your buyer will be doing YOU a favour.... Remember that the next time you're ranting on here about FTBs.
I'm efficient and my solicitor is efficient
This was the solicitor you were going to LIE to your buyer about earlier in this thread and blame for being slow in order for you to get your 4 weeks....but now their efficiency is a major brownie point....not sure how you're going to square those two angles with your buyer! If it were me, I would wonder what else you were lying about.

Actually, yes I have, I just think you're being ridiculous. And I moved areas with a move that required the movers for 2 days. And could only book those when the move was confirmed, which was about ten days in advance, but already had quotes.
ANd I didn't pack. And managed to have farewell meals at rather short notice etc etc.

As for your brownie points, I think you're imagining they'll actually make a difference. Or that they exist AT ALL

Same here ;) We've done two relatively long-distance moves (150 & 200 miles) - maybe not as far as Money is planning to move, but still quite a way. We had a serious load of stuff - not least a blooming huge and very heavy hot tub that required expert removers.......our buyers didn't want it on either occasion and as we were foolish enough to pay £11k for it we really couldn't dump it!

We did our own packing and again had got removal quotes in advance, provisionally booked but only confirmed once we'd exchanged. First long-distance move our removal company took five days in total to load, travel to our new house and unload.

Last time we actually moved ourselves - not recommended when you have the contents of seven large vans and 200 miles to travel, LOL - we also had lots of friends/family to say farewell to (first time at least), but still managed all of this with only a week between exchange and completion.

I really think that Money is making a bit of a meal of this - perhaps because this is the first time she's sold and therefore maybe we should make allowances, but even so her attitude to the whole process does seem a little odd :p

Ciderarmy, see from your timeline that you've exchanged. Congratulations!
And without 4 weeks to completion? How will you cope?!?!?

Who knows, I mean we need at least a day to pack our things and........

To be honest a bit annoyed we have got such a long gap, oh well!

    Decluttering already done - check.:D

Paperwork already collected together - check.:D

As for packing on the day itself - you don't know JUST how long-distance my move is going to be - ie very..... thus they have told me they will be packing the day before - check...

    No buyer - fail :D
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

As with your thread elsewhere- you seem to be substituting 'competition' for completion on your timeline- damned autocorrect?

  • Well just as I was feeling a little smug about how smoothly my process was going compared to some on here things seem to have hit a little speed bump.

We are all ready to exchange on our side but waiting for some queries to be answered by the vendor, nothing controversial just routine enquiries. Up till now she has been great and very quick but suddenly we've been waiting two weeks for the reply.

The vendor is an elderly lady who is moving closer to her family, when she accepted my offer she didn't have anywhere to move to but was happy to proceed and would move out and stay with her daughter whilst finding her next home. I'm wondering if she's now found somewhere to move to and is trying to slow down the sale so she can get the sale and purchase in sync. My issue is my next rental period starts on the 27th and I therefore want to exchange by then so I can give notice, and minimise the overlap between completion and giving up the flat.

I'm going to speak to the estate agent tomorrow to see if they know anymore or can give the vendor a nudge, starting to understand why this is one of the most stressful things in life!!!!

    Hi cider army
Looking at your sig it looks like we've got very similar time lines for our house purchases.
My agent said my vendor was looking for a completion date of 26th April as the vendor is going away in may for a month so would ideally like to complete before going away.
I've booked the time off work so I hope it happens on that date.

Is everything going smoothly for you now?

Just found out today we can go ahead with buying house without selling ours first, it's up for £139,995 and our first offer of 130,000 was rejected. Need to see on Monday where we stand with mortgage to that ammount though

    Hiya,

Sorry if this has been asked before. Do you know how much is the gap between exchange and completion? And who sets it? As a buyer can you influence it?

What are the advantages of leaving too much/too little time between exchange and completion?

And as I'm buying 200 miles away, does the exchange happen in person or does it involve signing forms and posting them over?

Sorry about all the questions. As a FTB all is new to me -and very confusing! :D

    Thanks!
