Sorry if Im posting in the wrong area.In late Febuary I cancelled a direct debit with the bank which was set up without my knowledge or permission with the above company.over the past 2 months I have had 3 telephone calls asking for the payment to be reinstated or provide a letter saying why I cancelled the DD. I have been given an address to mail to but they refuse to provide me with a letter highlighting the services they provide because I am in arrears with my alleged payments to them. They have also informed me that they will pursue the payment of £30 and I could incur further costs. They also informed me I had a right to cancel up 14 days from the contract but I was unaware of the service which I didnt subscribe to and so we seem to be going round in a circle they need a letter Im unwilling to send any letter to some one I know nothing about and can find little detail on the net other than where they are.
I should add that 2 other fraudulent transaction took place on my account around the same time 1 with expedia who immediately refunded the amount and the other for a transaction with the dvla.
In anticipation of a response thanks

Looks like they changed their name from the PC Genie.

Thanks for that I did the company house search and knew about the pcgenie connection which they stopped trading under because of some legal implication. It would appear the cheapest option is just to pay the money and mark it down to one of those life experiences.

...I wouldn't - just write them a letter stating quite clearly that you never set up a contract with them over the phone, internet or otherwise...you have no intention of paying them and will cancel the DD if they ever attempt to set one up again.....If you want, you can point out that your account had been subject to other frauds at that time...these people make their money by conning people in this fashion all the time.0 -
I too was "conned" by the original company (PC Genie). Last June I held a telephone conversation with what I thought was my ISP Talktalk. Two weeks later I noticed a direct debit for £23.87 from a PC GENIE. Never heard of them, had no idea what they did so I cancelled the direct debit.
I stared to receive phone calls asking for the £23.87. I explained that I knew nothing about them but they insisted that I had a contract with them.
I have keyed several of their phone numbers into my phone so that when a certain ring starts we do not answer the call or if I do pick it up I tell them that I will find the person they require and then hang on for 5 minutes then put the phone back down.
Do not give in to them they have "conned" me but as yet have not got any money out of me.

Like your previous posters, I have been harassed now for over 3 months from digital homecare (formerly pc genie). They have got no money out of me as I contacted my bank, though the callers insist that I took out a 'policy' with them and that because my direct debits have remained unpaid, I am now in arrears. I have asked several times for the precise arrangements to be put to me in writing before agreeing to making any payment. They have so far refused point blank to do so. They continue to threaten me with further action and additional charges. I still have no idea what their service involves. I have nothing in writing at all. Am I behaving legally in withdrawing any payment until I have something in writing abut their service?0

I have had the same problem as the others on here but i have paperwork which they are disputing and telling me that the paperwork is wrong. How when they sent it? Plus how do they get hold of 75% correct information without even talking to us first. I have been told that due to the managers christmas spirit if i pay half of what i supposedly owe then that will cancel my account. Why hasn't someone taken action against them?0

Got a call from 'Ryan' there from 0844 567 7889 extension 040 saying he was from talktalk and going to reduce my care plan price. It sounded like a call centre and he gave the usual chat you get with genuine calls from the likes of talktalk and having just renewed with talk talk last week I thought it was okay. He knew my address and name but asked to confirm bank sort and account number. I must be a bit slow today because I stupidly parted with my Account number and sort code but as I grew more suspicious I googled them to find all the other posts here so I finally clicked and hanging up on them. Just called the bank to warn them I didn't set up this direct debit if they do try and take any money.

I was cold called by Adam (08445677889), claiming to be from sky, and offering to reduce my computer care plan premiums. I didn't know what he was on about so I stalled him until I checked. Thanks for the heads-up. He asked for sort code and other details which they would already have if there was an existing account with them. Once they get that they can set up a direct debit which you didn't know you'd authorized.0

I have also had a cold call from 'Adam' on the above number, claiming that his company look after the broadband side of things for Virgin and saying that I am 'not on the cheapest plan' so my payments can be reduced.
All sounds very nice, until he asked for my bank sort code. Surely Virgin have this information? I said that I don't ever give out financial information to someone who cold-calls me as I don't know who they really are. Adam speaks very loudly and very fast, doesn't give you time to think. He kept insisting that it was perfectly safe to give him my bank details, unlike ceredit card details.
I said I would ring him back with the details as I don't have them to hand but he was very insistent that he would hold the line for as long as it took. The alarm bells were really ringing by now! He eventually agreed that he would ring back in 30 minutes, which gave me plenty of time to look up his company on t'interweb. In fact he phoned back in just a few minutes and did not seem at all surprised when I told him that I did not like what the search turned up so would not be giving him any financial details, now or ever.
I have asked for my phone number and email addy to be removed from their records. However, no-one who scams people for a living can be trusted, so I doubt this is the last time I will have heard from these people.0 -
The simple answer to everyone complaining on this thread is never to give any financial details to anyone who cold calls.
In fact, it's safest just not to accept any cold calls at all.0
